Yup! That’s the plan. I need to sort out the engine issues though. Overheats, impeller isn’t sucking in water. Lot of blow by from the vapor tube, think the head gasket is bad.

Luckily it’s a four cylinder pushrod engine from a mass manufacturer car designed in the 60’s, it’s dead simple to work on.

Has a stalling issue too. I’m getting the carburetors rebuilt.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
So... update on my kid's rig

He got the call from the Dealership. It IS covered under his extended warranty. So... for $200 + the cost of oil, he gets a sub-30,000 mile 1GRFE with a 50K mile warranty.

He was on his way home from our house (near Modesto) to Tacoma Washington area. He threw a connecting rod near Redding. He was so close to the end of his extended warranty, if he had made it home, it would not have been covered.

I have a lot of experience dealing with warranty and extended warranty contracts from several suppliers of said warranty (which it turns out a lot are the same two or three corporations). I was pleasantly surprised to hear they were covering the repair. A lot of times, they'll send out an adjuster who finds it's a bearing failure or some other of the excluded items and you're pooched-if you're considering buying a contract, insist on looking at the entire contract and the "exclusions" section-read it carefully--be aware that the seller might use terms like "won't cost you a thing" or "just like warranty". Very few offer exactly that and if they do, it's usually only sold as part of a new vehicle purchase.

They can be a pretty good purchase, especially for the expensive stuff (that's covered). Just read before you pay.

Two of them here. 97 4Runner with 262000 and the 96 Taco with 353000. I'm not easy on them either. Both regularly see RPM's well above 3K. These motors last and don't mind being high in the RPM band.

Did you try torquing them down a little?
    I’ve heard that helps.

Mine were seeping for the last 100k miles. I actually bought the kit 2 years ago and finally did something about it last week.
