Forget contouring to body lines, they don't even have the roof height or bed length matched.

It just doesn't look like it is made for the truck it's on.

Yeah, I did a double take because it didn’t look appropriate but I know these are brand new and dude probably didn’t buy it used from another model

This is definitely the Coolest cap I’ve seen. Probably won’t be able to afford it for a few years though.

Roof line wouldn’t bother me (obviously) but the bed length definitely would. This style cap is intended to look rugged, so I think there’s more forgiveness in aesthetics. IMO it looks way better than those fiberglass caps with the high roof that bulges up in the middle. Those look like a beer belly in repose.

I wasn't saying that at all. I was just talking about the kitchen kit accessory that RSI offers for their cap...

I carry long crap a lot on my roof so roofline matters for me. I do prefer the aesthetics of the stream lined aspect as well personally. That being said, your tradesman pulls off the same look as these with the higher roof and does it without looking like a cap you pick up off craigslist for $300 unlike these.

There may be more forgiveness in the aesthetics, but at this price point it's going to need to nail the other aspects. Like fitting the bed properly.

I quote failed. That was directed at the body line comment.

Yeah that makes sense. Adding a roof rack really makes the taller shells look better IMO.

There's another reason not to buy one other than "doesn't appeal to me" or "length too short" both of which are legit reasons (I don't really get the "carry long crap" argument, having a roofline above your cab and antennae, especially with a load rating like a steel cap offers seems like an advantage)
But the other reason not to buy this is that I haven't driven a truck that's gotten this much attention since my '57 Chevy stepside. People love this cap and are always asking me what it is and who makes it (yes, even though it says RSI right on its side :notsure:). I can't tell you how many conversations with random strangers have happened because of this cap. One parks maintenance worker even jumped out of his backhoe and flagged me down so he could ask me if they made them for his Sierra, I thought he was gonna yell at me for parking in the wrong spot or something. I haven't had a few days go by without having to field compliments or questions, and everyone who does comment agrees they're sick of the same old look in caps and that this one breaks the mold and looks good doing it.
But that can be a downside too- I don't always want to have to answer questions for 5-10 minutes when I'm trying to get home from the grocery store after a long day. At least with my '57 there was often an offer of money for my truck, but with this one I just get comments like "looks tactical"... uh, ok... or "looks expensive", and.. well it is expensive (it also feels super well made).
Anyway, it works well for me for reasons I've outlined before and won't go into here- I do love @tacomarin 's chubby unicorn- and I also like the RLD- but I wanted something between a Diamondback tonneau and the tradesman that was lightweight, strong and would come off and store easily. Honestly I still think my truck looks best when it's not wearing a cap of any kind...
I'm sure there people out there that don't like it and say so to themselves, but they don't come up to me and say "your truck looks stupid"! Thank god we have Tacomaworld for that! Ha!

Cab high cap with a full rack enables you to carry stuff like extension ladders, boards, and sticks of pipe up there. I have a full prinsu so anything that you dare put up there is sufficiently supported and clears the antennae. Strapping a 32' extension ladder to a sub 5' cap isn't going to work. Long 2x's are need more support as well.

I do like the additional weight capacity, no argument there.

And just so it's clear, I'm not saying they look stupid or make a truck look stupid. I'm allowed to voice the concerns and issues I have with the 5% of it I wish was different (cab high so a full roof rack and cap rack were level, and cap be 2" longer). I thought we were here to discuss the RSI cap, I didn't realize we all had to agree. I'm not telling you or anybody else they are wrong, merely discussing my issues with it.

I get enough comments on my truck as is so i'm cool there. I'm glad this thing exists along with the RLD, and when one is made that checks all the boxes, I will be sure to buy it so you can tell me how dumb my truck looks.

No need for everyone to agree - that'd be super boring. My comment about being thankful for tacomaword, where people will give you their straight uncensored opinion, was not tongue in cheek. Helps me not take things so seriously. If everyone always approves of what you're doing then you're probably doing it wrong, or for the wrong reasons.

I'll say that the long bed model fits perfectly. I'm not sure how they screwed up the length of the short bed model so badly, but I would definitely be disappointed by that. That said, I still think it looks great, just a tad short.

I appreciate the fact that it doesn't try too hard to look "integrated", but that's an aesthetic that I like.

My best friend helped me install mine and he was so impressed that I'm pretty sure he's about to pull the trigger on ordering one for his Tundra.

Could anyone with the SmartCap EVO share roof rail measurements (side-to-side) ?

The prinsu top rack comes with the mounting brackets actually- so that it can fit into Leer and ARE caps with built in rails. But it uses Yakima square anchor nuts to mount the bracket to the to the rails. The Built in RSI rails have a cap on each end (see photos) and though it’s hard to see on my photo the opening is 9/16”. (By the way the top opening on the RSI rail is just over 3/8”). So whatever mounting hardware you slide into the rail has to fit that. Unfortunately I think the Yakima square anchor nuts are 3/4”, but I’m gonna try to confirm that with Prinsu. I went through some old junk from years of varios racks and found some old school Yakima square nuts that might work (2nd photo) but wish they were a bit beefier

On center line the opening to the rails side to side is 38.5”
