Need help deciding on speakers for an 07

So im in the process of buying a new stereo for my tacoma as it didn't come with Bluetooth or Aux capabilities. I was thinking of going ahead and upgrading most of the sound system at the same time. My budget is fairly limited, so I am looking at up to $250 dollars (or as much less as possible and excluding the price of the stereo) for the speakers and tweeters.

I'm just wondering If it would be better upgrading all 6 speakers for a general upgrade, or just swapping some parts. I am the only person in my car, so should I just upgrade the front speakers?

I'd love to answer some questions to get a discussion started.

 

Speaker suggestions are subjective to the genre(s) of music you listen to as well as the type of speaker construction the speakers are made of.

For example, silk dome tweeters vs aluminum dome will give two different types of sounds due to their construction but will excel in the type of genres of music they are constructed to recreate.

I guess what I'm saying is that it would help if you posted your type of musical preference, also it would help to know what type of bass reproduction you are after.

 

I hate to be that guy but I honestly like all types of music. Tyler Childers, Morgan Wallen, King George, Travis Scott, Post Malone, The Weekend, Lynyrd Skynyrd, i guess you get the picture. Although if I had to pick a genre when driving it would probably be Hip-Hop.

I'm not crazy into bass in the sense that my car falls apart because of the vibration, but I do enjoy feeling a bit immersed.

I know that I basically just described an impossible scenario, but thats honestly why I have so many questions.

Sounds like Nathan is kind of an SQ guy to me. That is going to be hard to do for $250 unless we are talking fronts only, but also pointless unless we are talking about an amplifier as well.

About the only compromise I can think of is some Second tier JLs or Hertz speakers, something efficient but also handles a little bit of power so a modest amp can be added.

The other option is something designed as an OEM replacement from Focal or OEM+, or possibly Excelon.

 

I'd start with the deck replacement and see how it goes with factory then make your decisions from there.

I've had Hertz before and they were amazing, but really sensitive to input.

Yeah that’s my plan for now, I just bought a JVC KD-T91MBS head unit. The only thing I noticed, and it may just be because of the factory head, but it sounds like I’m listening to tv static (not because of connection issues).

 

I'm pretty bias but i still think JL is the best when it comes to car audio.

but they are expensive haha.

 

I have an 07 Prerunner and I'm pretty money limited also. I put in a 50 w. Sony single DIN and a Sound Ordnance underseat sub. The Sony is crap. Sounds okay, but is finicky in operation.
Honestly, I could stop there, although I'm going to do the rest gradually as $$ become available.

 

If you can stretch the budget a little and install a 2-channel amp for the fronts & a set of decent 6x9 up there, you'll get far better results than trying to use head unit power on something cheap (all you'll be able to power with the head unit). A decent 2 channel with maybe 100 WRMS per channel shouldn't cost you too much more. When you consider all the time you'll spend listening to it...

 

Here’s an alternate plan vs what everyone else has said. Get an under seat powered subwoofer (I have a Kenwood, crutchfield has a few under $200) and a set of component speakers for the fronts, leave the rears alone. I put sound ordnance 6.75 components in, Kenwood head unit, no amp. Sounds amazingly good, clear, crisp, the underseat woofer gives solid bass. Not $250, for me I think it was closer to $300.
