2013 Toyota Tacoma non-JBL to JBL radio replacement

Hello All,

I purchased a 2013 Tacoma for my son. I bought it with an aftermarket stereo and sub woofer in it. I would like to replace the aftermarket radio with a factory radio and regain the steering wheel controls (better for a new driver). I suspect the original radio was a non-jbl radio based on the factory plugs. I got a great deal on a 2013 JBL radio and I would like to install it. I have been thru many of the posts and am attempting to create a wire harness to make it work. I have managed to get power to the unit, but no sound.

Therefore I am looking for some advice, does anyone have any suggestions to make this work or is there different options.

FYI, the aftermarket radio is a Pioneer AVH-2300NEX

That’s going to be a no-go unfortunately.

the JBL system is VERY different than the non-JBL. It has an amp, sub, different speakers, and totally different wiring.

the JBL radio doesn’t actually output any power to the speakers. It sends a digital audio signal to the JBL amp, and uses a data signal to control volume and EQ internally in the amp.

 

You need a steering wheel control interface/module, to retain steering wheel controls.

Install the Maestro, get your steering wheel controls back (and more), and just to be a troll, hook up the video disable correctly so he can’t watch DVDs while in motion.

No need to replace the stereo.

It’s also possible a steering wheel interface was installed with the stereo and it got connected to the wrong jack or wasn’t set up right to begin with and whomever was too lazy to pull the stereo out again to get it working.

It’s a mostly plug-and-play harness for the axxess module. If you’re comfortable splicing, then you don’t necessarily need the harness. But if you’re not relatively experienced in wiring, the harness is worth it

I was curious about putting a factory stereo back in my 2013 also, but I can't justify the cost of doing it. I have a Kenwood aftermarket unit that is tied into the steering wheel controls. My issue is the buttons on the steering wheel controls, particularly the volume ones, seem to stick a little and don't always work properly. I'm not sure if I can remove that button combo and clean the contacts or not. Any ideas?
