Would think it’s cheaper to make a good frame but I guess not.

The dealer wax stuff isn’t very good, and usually $$$ just literally is not worth the time or money.

@Chase8059 are you paying anything for your frame coating? I have been under the impression that it is free with frame inspection.

I mean, I know that, but I haven't seen anything outside of what I'd normally see. Although, I'm sure there's something to it.

I assumed you knew that but you asked the question haha. I haven't seen any photos of 3rd gens that really would have me worrying.

All good. I haven't either. I've seen some 1st gen extreme examples, but nothing much on the 2nd gen or 3rd gen as far as extreme goes.

I have seen a couple 2nd gens that were rough but I agree some of the 1st gens are really bad. On another note I have a 3rd gen T4R and the only rust on the frame is the rear shock towers.

Yeah, I have some light surface rust, but nothing I wouldn't expect to see from a 4 year old vehicle from the rust belt. What worries me the most, honestly, is the seam of the muffler which faces directly toward the frame. That's usually the first thing to go when the muffler goes, thus spraying all that heat directly into the frame rail. I noticed the TRD exhaust isn't made that way.

They haven't gotten back to me about my 2nd gen. It passed inspection and they had to order the fluid they need to spray the frame with. I haven't paid a dime yet, and wasn't expecting to. I guess I'll see what they say when they are ready to coat my frame.

From what i saw at a dealer years ago with frames stacked like cords wood. They won't just fail any rusty frame....it has to be real bad, and even then you'll sometimes wait months before getting approval. My neighbor had an 03 tacoma that failed, needing a new frame...they left him hanging for months. Finally he got fed up, and took a deal from toyota to buy back his truck at 1.5 of its book value. Pissed, but satisfied he took the check, and put it down a new ram 1500.

Ok got my truck back from inspection, what I learned, why I'm confused and a question I have.ive got a 16 and apparently they have boxed frames in the front where road debris can get in and just rot it from the inside like road salt, maybe some, maybe all, don't know but mine is, after 16 they are open frames from what the tech told me.Thought they were gonna treat my truck like you would think, like spray all surfaces of metal but mine got only the seams done except in the very front where they coated the entire interior of the boxed frame.i have some pictures then a picture with a question.
