@MrMccrackin nice! Would it fit in the cubby if I stretched the lip a bit?

I wonder if this would work in the cubby even though it says down firing. 3A0ABF4A-FD32-4D7D-BB62-90F92D78E266.jpg

The box would fit, but the actual subwoofer would not, you could trim the front of the cubby pocket out so the speaker doesn’t touch the plastic cubby.
The downside of keeping the plastic cubby is that you will more than likely get rattles and vibrations from the cubby.

If you are determined to keep the plastic cubby, the L7 8” fits right in the cubby.

Gotcha. I wonder if they make some type of covering that would hide the painted metal frame and sound dampening that is exposed when the cubby is out.

A lot of people opt to put some sound deadening on the back of the cab when the cubby is pulled out to counter additional road noise from removing it.

I put Kilmat back there but might try and find some subwoofer carpet to dress it up.

@destin_meeks I look at it every day before I leave the house! Lol. I asked for that. You’re right. So I guess what I should focus on is getting probably a 10inch comp RT with at least a 400 rms at 4ohms amp if the sub is 4 ohms. I feel like I’m back in school but as a student instead of a teacher.

Welp. After some deliberating I’ve been able to find a Kicker Hideaway HS10 for the same price as the 8 inch. Teacher discounts rock! Harness looks the same. Should be straight plug and play if it fits under the seat. Gets here Friday. I’ll provide some feedback on it as I don’t see much info about it. Thanks for the great conversation and advice. It’s one of my favorite things about this forum.

Hideaway 10 came in. I've provided some pictures to compare it with the Hideaway 8. I can confirm that the harness is the same. It looks like the only difference with the input side is that the 10 uses a 15 rated fuse. I'm also excited to tell you guys that it does fit under the seat! The wires that are underneath the seat sit on top of it but I'm pretty sure they did with the 8 as well. I felt pretty confident that it would because the dimensions listed on the Kicker website are nearly identical for both of them. I'll update soon on whether there is a difference in sound once it breaks in a little. IMG_0589.HEIC.jpg IMG_0590.HEIC.jpg IMG_0591.HEIC.jpg IMG_0592.HEIC.jpg

So what's your thoughts on the 10 compared to the 8? Is it worth the extra $50?

To my ears, no. I have been fiddling with the frequencies on the Key and the Hideaway. The 10 has an extra 30 watts of rms to push the 10 but it’s still to me going to round out the system like the 8 does. Neither will rattle the doors. If you have the Key, it might be an option to look at a an amp and a passive subwoofer.

I have the kicker key 200 and kicker KSC's for the front and read doors coming. I'm 58 and not looking for some head banging bass so I'll probably just go with the 8" Hideaway if there's no real difference. Plus I use the space behind the back seat and don't want to give it up for a sub. Thanks for the info!

Under the drivers seat is the preferred placement for the 8?

There’s a crossbar under the passenger seat that hangs down too low, so you’re forced to go under the drivers side

Thanks Destin. Has anyone put it behind the rear passenger seat? Just curious about sound, vibration etc.

Edit: Where is everyone putting the remote tuner knob?

Underside of the dash below the ECT button. Attached with 3M automotive tape; degreased both surfaces really well and it's held for nearly 18 months now. The cable is just wedged into the seam between the dash and console, but could be totally hidden with a little more effort.

Drilled a hole in back of cubby pocket, installed rubber grommet, and used screws screwed from top of cubby pocket to lock remote down. Cable is behind kick panel and underneath carpet. 526D15AE-290E-4298-B914-486782B5660C.jpg5C5776C3-2E09-4D1B-B3FA-890FBFEC7C22.jpg
