Trying to find a RTT and rack mounting solution for a family of four. Almost too much information to sift through...seen lots of two person tents, not so many for four peeps. Kids are elementary and middle school, so I think a four person would work. Possibly, some sales might come up in Oct or Nov?

TuffStuff is having a presale on their big tent. Bed is essentially a king bed when folded out.

i think if you need bigger than 87x71 you should look into a camper. Thats a lot to be carrying around.

I don't disagree. We are looking at the new square drops to put the Tepui on top, and have two up and two down.

im no small guy at 6'9" 260 but thankfully the wife is tiny so we can make it work. If we ever have kids once they get bigger itll be time for a trailer of some sort because us two alone fill up our tent easily.

What about a ground tent for the kids or some sleeping bags in the annex

You could ask CVT about their Three Sisters tent. I highly doubt it will fit on a taco though. You might need a Suburban with a long roof.

Or you could do a RTT on your truck, and a RTT on your trailer. These are my friends out in CO.

We've used both of those methods with varying degrees of success. The Tepui has spoiled them.

I would pay you my hard earned money for something like that vs my hack job with the OEM cubby door.

An unusually high amount of pinstriping.
A RTT to conformably fit four people going to be big. The biggest RTT that I know of is CVT's Denali tent. You COULD put it on the back of a Tacoma, but like a lot of things, just because you can doesn't mean you should. I have the smaller CVT Rainier and have almost a foot overhang of the back. The Rainier can definitely sleep four, but it's going to be a little snug. As for a bed rack, don't skimp out on a cheap one. Make sure what you get can handle all the weight. Just a ballpark guess, but I would put you at 650 to 700ish pounds with all four of you and the tent. Also, make sure it fully supports the tent. A 6' or 7' long tent with two bars that are 3' apart is going to put a lot of stress on your tent. I really like my BAMF bed rack due to it covers almost the entire length of the bed and it very well built. There are some other good racks out there, but CBI is the only one I can think of right now. Good luck with your search and let us know what you end up with.

Hello there, I am new to the forum, in fact, this is my first post - so please forgive me if im posting in the wrong section
I am getting ready to install a Yakima roof rack on my ARE fiberglass camper shell in hopes of eventually buying a hardtop RTT in the coming months.
In most of my research and watching videos, I'm primarily seeing these tents mounted on flat racks like Prinsu - has anyone had good experience mounting a hardtop RTT on a standard Yakima rail system? Thank you in advance
