Morning all, Mike would love that set-up for elk season. We slept in tents - no stoves last season in mid November in the high country - I am 66 and got cold to the bone - looking for a different option this season. Headed out there Monday to do a little scouting as the fires are still causing migration issues and the smoke today is so bad I cannot put the dogs in the pen - it is foggy out due to the smoke.

It is fall here, we have two turkey families hanging around for the last week. So far we have counted 31 between mom, kids and other relatives. The two families do not really hang together so they visit different parts of the property but they are all here right now. Usually I would not care but they are leaving so much poop we have to poop scoop not only our dogs waste but the turkey waste - dogs love it but it is not good for them

I took the quad up towards our upper field - leaves are beautiful.

Are you sure it's the pressure tank? If the pump is pumping, you should have some water.. maybe not full pressure. Could be the pump control box, if no water. Relay, starting capacitor inside go bad. A new control box is a fairly fast, cheap easy fix, just to see. If not, you have a spare for when it does. I keep a new one handy. Mine failed on a Sat. night years ago. Drove 60 miles on a Sun. morning, hoping Menards had one for a 1/2hp submersible, they did, but only one! Got lucky.. now I keep a spare. There are cheaper ones, but this is the one I keep on hand. Made in USA.

If you're replacing the one above with the same one, turn off the well circuit, one screw removes the block (capacitor and relay), plug in the block from the new one, install the screw, turn well breaker back on, done.

Having worked with water systems for almost 50 years, I have one suggestion. If you aren’t well in versed pumps and controls. Hire someone who is.

I can think at least a dozen causes with just the flimsy info given. That and knowing that most often clients are wrong in their diagnosis would prevent me from making a determination of cause. And it could be more than one problem or it may even be the start of a cascade failure event.

The pictures are great Mark, absolutely beautiful. The fall colors are one of the many things my wife misses about her home state of Pennsylvania. (She doesn’t miss the winters though, she’s not a snow and ice gal)

It ended up being the control box after all. Thankfully I did shut off the pump so it would not run when the boiler was calling for heat. Everything is back up and running. I did have water before the tank so I was able to narrow down it either being the tank bladder failing or the control panel.

Beautiful colors and beautiful property - our fall color is not the same here. Only the aspen change and that is to a yellow/orange color - still pretty but just not the same.

Great news! Gotta have water, heat. My pressure tank has been on the fritz a couple weeks, I'm on the list waiting for a new tank. Still have water and pressure, but can't set correct air pressure in the bladder. I drain the tank, check/set pressure once a month.. noticed it will only take 27lb., should be 38lb. Bladder is waterlogged. They are replaceable, but these days it's more work than these old bones want to do. Something this important, I'll just replace the tank. The old tank is original, 30 years old, and it's a big tank.
I have a good well guy finally. They're scarce around here these days, with the city expanding water lines, not much call for a driller anymore. This father-son team should hopefully be around when we need. Regardless, I'll learn everything I can about wells, controls.. even helping install this one when we built. OJT

New tank is in, operating perfect. Happy camper!

Our well pump and tank are only 19 years old but we have so much sediment (decomposed granite) that the normal life span is not realized here. We have three well diggers in the area - the one I use is hard to get but they are the best in this area. They were able to get the tank back to 38psi and everything seems to running well (pun intended LOL). I agree, these days the replacement bladder and time it takes to mess with is not worth it as the cost of these tanks have come down over the years - at least here.

    Have a great day everyone.

I guess we're lucky, all we have is some red iron, which I filter out with 2 standard 10" 1 micron filters per month. I also installed a sealing type cap on the well to keep bacteria to a minimum, and I add 2oz. of bleach to the 250gal. of standing water in the well once a month. Percentage wise, it's a very small amount.. 00625%. If you ever add bleach, be aware most water softeners can only handle up to 2% chlorine, municipal water is around 2%. I have the county test it yearly for bacteria, so far so good.

Good morning all. Who knew that I would look forward to a Hygienist appointment but I did and glad I got my teeth cleaner yesterday, oh what a feeling - LOL

Smoke is back heavy today, we found out our 3 yr old Golden is allergic to the smoke - had an issue two years ago as well due to fires in the area with him but now we know for certain why his eyes get runny and his third eye is affected.

Headed out to scout / glass for elk on Monday be gone the whole week in the high (higher) country. with all the fires in the area where I hunt we want to scout the herd migration changes the fires has caused.

Have a great week everyone and by all means be safe
