How much can those bars hold?

The bars can hold roughly 250 lbs - my camper shell can hold roughly 220 - the RTT is probably 150 - so it's not necessarily the weight that im concerned about - it's the mounting options.

so essentially, mounting an RTT on a roof rack, on a shell without internal structural support is seemingly pointless, or are there options?

I would think it would depend on how you plan to drive it. Mine gets a couple ratchet straps for good measure when wheeling.

There are others that know more but static vs. dynamic is what needs figured out.

That the dynamic weight rating. Static weight rating is much higher and can support the weight.

Thank you for clarifying @Matmo215 - looks like the static weight rating of the yakima crossbars is 600lbs, vs. its dynamic weight rating of 165-200, which will be plenty to hold the tent itself.

Yep, it can be confusing at first but as long as you know both ratings and how they work you’ll be good. It took me a while to understand lol

so there is no question in my mind that the rack itself will hold up. but how about the shell? it's got a rating of 220. that's also dynamic i guess?

99% of the time they list dynamic ratings. I would call the company to try and confirm. Shells are pretty beefy. I would be shocked if they are only rated to hold 220lbs static.

Been reading this thread off and on for weeks now. Lots of good info that im trying to take in for the RTT purchase ill be making over the winter.

The amount of options are kinda overwelming to be honest but yall have made for a good read none the less.

I pick up my 23zero Walkabout on Friday. From everything I’ve read, for the price I paid I feel like I got the best tent for my money.

My roommate has CVT and I have the new Smittybilt 2nd gen.

Both look and work great, with smittybilt being slightly bigger. I've used my RTT 5 times now and I can't wait to go camping in it some more.

@Sociopenguin has a big family sized Smittybilt, maybe he can offer insight on that.
