IMO I would ditch the alarm system rather than add solar panels or dual batteries. Sounds like a Viper problem more so than a Toyota charging issue.

Wasn't there a tread about AMG type batteries needing a little more voltage to charge than what is typically put out by most Tacomas a few weeks ago?

Little bit of this and a little bit of that but stock af.
I'm having similar issues. How did you determine it was you alarm? Also, how did you turn off the setting to where it would stop pinging?

The alarm system uses that much battery? That sounds high. Did you try the parasitic draw test?

It sounds like there is a problem with the Viper system, or possibly installed wrong. IMO if you install a aftermarket alarm system and you have to swap batteries, add a solar panel, or dual battery setup to offset for the power draw of the alarm, you are chasing the wrong problem. If the issue is the transceiver constantly pinging cell towers then that is a major design flaw on Vipers part and I would be asking for my money back or buying a different alarm system.

It actually makes sense that they are pinging cell towers (not an expert on alarm systems though). If it doesn't do that, the system doesn't know if it's working properly or not.

Anyways, I asked if they actually proved that the alarm system was the culprit or if the solar panel is just hiding the actual problem.... which might get worse, which might even cause bigger problems. He's got a pile of electronics on the truck extra. I'm just curious.

I agree. I also agree the cell towers pinging makes sense, however if it is requiring that much power than Viper has problems.
