Finally got this welding job done. Shop is smoked up and smells like cheap burnt paint and burnt super glue. Had to open the door and turn the fan on. Customer is bringing another load when he comes to fetch these, thankful for the work

I posted this in the welding thread, but I’ll throw it here to get some feedback if possible. My problem is I have the tools to do the job but little time to practice, so my projects look half assed. This is some scrap from the dumpster at work, squared on 2 sides with the mill before welding. I plan on cleaning up all 6 sides with the fly cutter just for practice, to try to get better at both tig welding and setting up the milling machine. Any advice on either is welcome.

The welding looks pretty good honestly. If you’re going to mill it, grind it a little so the sides are flat and it doesn’t move around in the vice

Yes, they bolt the base to the other end and tighten it up. Sometimes they work loose so this is supposed to prevent that. You get what you pay for ;)

good call. I’ll try it tonight and post the results. My daughter wants this for decoration for some reason so I’ll have to be careful.

Like pictures? I don't have much due to papers I have to say stating I won't take pictures and won't share any that I do, at least from some shops I've worked at. I've made gun parts for civilian and military use, aerospace parts, a few custom things for cars, blow mold injection head parts, satellite parts, cell tower parts, and others I'm forgetting lol

    D:All the above

On a serious note, sounds like an awesome job you have. Too bad you can't share some photos with us. We have a few customers we can't share their stuff but others haven't made us sign anything

Thats similar to the situation I have at work, but most of everything says we can't share designs. I hope I'm bending that rule rather than breaking it by sharing photos of finished parts I've made here lol. The truth is with what we do, seeing a finished product does not leave someone able to replicate it because the propriety is in the process, but I dont know if thats the same case for machining.

Kinda the same with us, if I share a picture of something important people probably won't have any idea what it's for or what it does, unless I share the drawing or drawings that go with it. I try not to share things that are proprietary

Same here. I can attest that I'm about as close to replicating the things you guys post here as I am to being a Victoria's secret model.

I can share a couple pics from the blow mold stuff, I don't have a ton of pics though just for the reasons stated before. Losts of defense work I've done. If you want thought go look up Century Arms C39V2 rifle and pistol variations I've made receivers, gas blocks, and front sites for both

We ordered a shed for our camper August 7th, they finally brought it today. My wife called me at work, she’s working our store with our kids. She said you need to come home. They got stuck where our garden was and I recently sowed. He was apologetic, I said don’t worry about it and got the tractor out and pulled him backwards. Two guys been here for an hour and a half and this is where they are.

Heres a couple, first one is a titanium block just milling a V into it, the kid that programmed the part didn't know what feeds and speeds to run, after I figured that out I sped it way up. Second one is for a fiber optic cable to run through, m10x.3 and m11x.3 threads, 4th pic is a bushing holder I made, the bore was +/-.0002 (ran them at -.0001" from high limit with a variation of +/-.0001 as thats what the assembler wanted), c'bore dia and depth were both +/-.001, last pic is having to remove a tap from one of the parts. 3rd pic is of all the tool holders and 3 not pictured used to make the bushing holders
