I’ve been wondering this for a little while. Was the older model Tundra roughly the same size as the 3rd gen Tacoma? I saw a Tundra like the one in your pic the other day and thought it looked pretty close in size to my Tacoma.

I traded my 2017 VW GTI for my Tacoma. Got a wicked deal from the stealership on both.

They were very similar in size.
Taking a look through Google, they appear to almost be exact.
    2003 Tundra: 218″ L x 75-79″ W x 71-72″ H
    2020 Tacoma: 212-226″ L x 74-75″ W x 71-72″ H

I payed off my 06 Lexus IS350 in February. Liked the thought of not having car payments. Didn't plan on buying then Covid hit. I knew prices were going to skyrocket since the auto manufactures shut down so to me it was now or never. I traveled a couple hours to find a sport with a manual trans. technically, I did not trade in anything. the dealer only wanted to give me 2k for my Lexus. I kept it and sold it privately for $3900. At times I miss the speed of it but I like the truck more.

Didn't trade in, but sold my 2011 Subaru Outback to a friend for $6K - more than I could have received for trade in, but still a decent deal for him. After 185,000 trouble free miles, it was a bittersweet parting, but the Tacoma has more stuff I need. And looking forward to 200K+ more trouble free miles!

That's what pushed me to upgrade my 2017. Had wanted the 2020 since February of last year (after the announcement and teases from Toyota). But, my house said "No! I need a new air conditioner!" So I forked out $9,500 for that. Then when that loan was paid off my house again said "No! I need a new roof!" So I forked out $13,000 for that. By then I decided that I wouldn't get the truck, but seeing as how the payments were essentially the same because of interest rates and covid, I said screw it, I'm doing it.

    I sold this:

Got this (2020 TRD Pro, MT):

Requested the allocation in March, took possession in early September. It was worth the wait :D

    It's my first Tacoma.

The Frontier was okay, not a bad truck, but the Tacoma is quite a bit better.

I traded in a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 for a 2016 Tacoma. I loved the Dodge, but it was high mileage and starting to develop maintenance issues. My wife wanted something newer with less miles for our cross-country road trips. We picked up the Tacoma a week ago Monday and this past weekend I tested it out on road trip. ~12 hours one way for a wedding and over 1,200 miles. The truck performed great! I was originally going to take my wife's Camry but after we got the Tacoma I just HAD to test it out on a road trip!

I sold my 2008 Infiniti m45x. Did me well for 12 years, glad I made the move to the 2020 Tacoma though.

I traded a 2000 Sonoma for my '17 SR5 last year. At nearly 20 years old, the GMC was a mess physically and mechanically. I still don't know if it was more surprising that the dealership actually gave me money for it, or that it survived the 160 mile trip there.
