I was pushing my truck pretty hard on the highway going uphill when I started loosing power and developed a bad knocking sound. This happened after a day old oil change if that is suspect.

Picture shows what happened to a few of my bearings (two rod and two main). The main bearings were not in as bad a shape, but the two rod bearings were crushed and half slipped underneath the other. The scoring on the crank doesn't appear to be too bad.

Plan is to re-polish the crankshaft and replace all the bearings with smaller ones. Also going to hone the cylinders and replace all the piston rings. Everything else seems to be in good shape. The head looks brand new.

Any words of caution or suggestions? Thanks.

    what year

    how many miles

what caused oil starvation to start with

U will need to plastigauge the crank................a good machine shop will be able to rehab the crank

right now all the bearings are different clearances

U wont be able to just throw bearings at the crank

You'll need to send that out and go oversized, but its not very common procedure on import 4 bangers.

I'd source a used engine personally.

1998 with 250,000 miles, top of the block had been resurfaced at 225,000 and given a new head.

Yeah, the plan was to have a shop machine the crank journals for some thicker bearings.
I'm not sure about the rods. Could they have been warped? Should I replace those aswell?

im sure i didnt mention ' should ' .............. i asked a few questions to determine the state of the engine b4 blowing up

if U were going to consider rebuilding...............when U milled the block & installed new head

that would have been the time !!!
