New poll. Saw the blemished wheel thread and it gave me an idea.

I've bought blemished batteries before, have 2 in my Duramax right now. I've seen and considered some blemished kitchen appliances but chose to pass on them.

The third picture you posted is basically the same set up as the mill we have in our shop. I believe its a Bridgeport (?). We don't use it a lot, and as stated by @Gregthespy it often is used as a drill press but watching you guys has fed my interest in using our machining tools more so yesterday I got my boss to give me a short lesson on using it.

Wow, and i thought we adhered to pretty tight tolerances. There are odd ball jobs where someone wants tolerances in the +- .005" range but honestly thats hard to achieve with the material and tools we use, +- .5 mm (.019") is a lot more common for us and we can definitely hold to that.

I did a job the other day that had some .7874" holes with a tolerance of +.0004" -.0000" luckily we don't get a whole lot with a 4/10ths tolerance.

Back in the day when I did finish grinding on crankshaft bearing journals I had a tolerance of +- .00025 . I would run them at +.0002 -.0000

+/-.005 for me is standard engineering tolerance and is wide open for what I do and what I'm use to, +/-.010 is about a mile for me. I'm just use to having to work with tighter stuff. Some people consider +/-.001 wide open...

I sanded the other 4 parts so they blend in with the one I welded. This one had a dowel hole with a .0005” tolerance. They get zinc plated so you won’t be able to see the boo boo anyhow :D

I should add, our parts are almost entirely hand made. The +- .019 standard tolerance is definitely doable, but requires skill when were making the adjustments essentially by eye, then checking with calipers or height gauges.

I was going to ream them but drilled them with a .234 (A) drill bit and they came out perfect.

We have a few old bridgeports at work now for one off stuff, but all this CNC talk reminds me of my aerospace days with shops full of small Hekumas to a fleet of T1 makinos.

We'd machine suburban size pieces of metal into aerospace parts. Blows my mind that the run time was a solid 6.5 days. Load on Monday morning, offload Sunday grave.

Thats sweet, I love running Makinos. My favorite so far has been a 2016 Makino a61NX 4 axis horizontal
