That's what I thought. I would like to think that a pile of R&D goons would be able to figure out what one dude did. I hope they get it figured out by the time I get around to digging that $6500 in change out of my couch cushions.

That was my guess also, esp with them providing the HW for the 2nd Gen OE kits. It seems there is extreme voodoo in cracking the ECUs and even more wizard level skills to correct all the WTFs and traps that Toyota laid in the Stock tune.

I doubt that Magnusson want to mess with the code to optimize it as much as Mat has. We are talking about a pro tuner working on this for several years and thousands of beta testers finally developing a tuning platform and telling people to work on the tunes themselves. Magnusson probably wants to do the bare minimum to make it work and bring in some money.

What Magnuson needs to do is—
Get on TacomaWorld, offer the few guys that have been mastering Vftuner an opportunity to work on their tune in exchange for Superchargers. Sounds like a win-win!!
Because I know that IF we could look at their tune and make changes, this SC would perform much better!!
I know my truck has more gains now with my custom tune than any of those with that Magnuson tune +SC.

I'm wondering if Magnusson will just keep saying "next year" on the software like they did for the Gen3 SC.

While I do agree with you, the classic take on S/Cs is that off idle kick. If there's nothing until mid-range, like OG turbos, then why even bother? Now for me, those OG turbos were a hoot. I got along with them day to day. Hell, I have a dream of taking a Porsche 930 for a drive. But, that is not what the Maggy buyers were expecting, esp for the 3rd Gen?

I personally think the SC has good power off of idle. The tuning still forces upshifts way too early like Toyota's stock tune does though.

But even with premature up-shifts it still feels more responsive off the line than the truck did without. Shifts at 2k rpm are annoying but the truck does accelerate well in the 1.5k - 2k rpm range. Without the SC anything below 2.5k rpm was useless in my opinion.

I still haven't gone full throttle but in normal conservative driving the extra power definitely can be felt.

There is 100% still room for improvements in my opinion. Mostly to the transmission logic and i'm sure that some more power can be coaxed out of the SC as well. Then we can start looking at fuel upgrades and smaller pulleys!

If that's their strategy then it's a pretty terrible one. I'm strictly speculating here but I would think most folks who end up with an SC are enthusiasts to whatever extent. Enthusiasts typically end up on forums like this one that is so near and dear to us. Things like these reports show up on forums and push potential buyers one way or the other. In this case it seems like its pushing a lot of folks towards OVTune Turbos or just the flash. At the very least if someone has never looked at TW and decided they wanted more power out of their Taco, I would hope they do a bare minimum amount of research before dropping $7k and click on the first google link that shows up which will likely lead them here.

I think you are the only person so far that is saying this. In the end, I am glad that you are feeling it.

I don't think you're going to get anything out of Maggy on the AT? OVT spent a huge amount of time on both 1.05 and 2.0 to get the shifting where folks liked it, yet it still has to come in flavors to keep most folks happy and still be editable to satisfy the remainder. Maybe Maggy will buy into the TCU patch that OVT is working on, or maybe you should tell them to?

I would be pretty bummed if it felt like a 4 spd 930 or the Turbo Saab's of similar vintage, The Lag-Meister!

For a new S/C design, yes!

The Saab used to make me laugh though. Even the somewhat cured torque steer and spool. The 2.0l was a killer mill with spot on ratios in the transmission.

I knew a person with a Thunderbird SuperCoupe. The off idle torque on that thing was a gut punch.

??? add the Magnuson SC and use VFT tune currently flashed then monitor (log) for tune modifications. Screw the Magnuson Tune. ??

Where do we start in the VFT tune process to do this?

The questions there, in my mind, are:

-- What are the access differences between vF and the Pro version? I believe this is a factor.
-- Are all the necessary maps available to make an FI tune?
-- The big one, what is the interaction of all the maps?

As an example on that last one, somehow the Air Load Control maps are linked to AT shift programming.

Also, it was said that we do not have enough access yet to create an SFOB / Tow (Atkinson delete) tune.

I would think the best way to go about this would be to take OVT's 2.0 tune in VFT and turn the fueling up to 11?

I tried to keep up with the VFT thread but it seems like all parameters needed to make a FI tune (fueling and timing??) are available in VFT for adjustment.

the fuel controlling Mat is using for his high TT project requires his custom controller. i wonder what you can do w/o revised hardware. something, I'm sure.

I think it would be worth reviewing all of OVTs posts in the TT thread from the time that he found the stock LPFP problem, then the recall, and how that delayed the 2.0 Full release for the ATs. I remember lots of good nuggets in there. Also, his posts in that timeframe in the Dev thread?

That is mainly a requirement for the PowerMax kits. So, it would depend on the boost levels of the S/C kit. But, the info noted from that development could help with the a 2.0 tune edit.
