EDIT: Nevermind. I see now that the part numbers change when you make your year selection to 16-Current to the ones for sale linked above.

I tested my 1st gen alternator output and it was high enough to be in the proper range that Northstar requires. I did put it on trickle once to see if it got any higher, but it's been sitting at the right voltage.

In my 2nd-best gen, I have the 0.5V booster from HKB. I'll probably throw the trickle charger on it once a month and see if it bring it up any higher or if the booster is working as intended.

I may have a spare battery, not concerned with the one in the truck any longer

I could be wrong, but I recall reading somewhere awhile back that you can't use a trickle charger on an AGM battery as the amperage output on a trickle charger is not high enough to register with an AGM battery. I think you want at least 10 amps.

There's definitely AGM chargers out there, but I think trickle charge on an AGM requires higher amperage output. I don't think you can use one of those little .5 or 1.5 amp chargers designed for lead acid batteries.

i know one of those cheap battery tender trickle chargers is not what im looking for. there are some maintainers though like this one from optima that are suitable for keeping an agm ready and waiting. im looking for input or experience with the se types

Well I'm obviously wrong about the amperage.

I don't have any experience with the low amp chargers like the ones you just posted, but I keep my AGMs on a NOCO15000 whenever it's parked in the garage for a few days. As long as the charger is designed for AGM, it really comes down to price and brand preference. You'll sacrifice some features and charge / jump modes on the smaller ones, but they will do the job.

Derp. Bad link to Amazon before - that was just a connector. Here's the Genius 5 with the AGM mode (and others): https://no.co/genius5
