Just for the sake of asking (and apologies if I looked right past this answer)....what is the difference between the alpha rack and the bravo + the armor plating?

They have a video on the website that goes over difference but extra armortek provides easier way to hide wiring, cool color matching options, and grab handles.

quick post to clarify: alpha vs bravo with the optional aap added...they seem very similar and I was curious if there was something about the alpha I missed that equaled the $100 Difference

I've actually got the same question. I'm between the two racks right now and it seems the only difference between the Alpha and Bravo w/ AAP would be one less load bar and I believe the original hardware on the Alpha is stainless whereas on the Bravo is black oxide.

The direction I'm leaning towards is getting a Bravo rack now and eventually piece mealing my way to having an Alpha lite, if you will. I'm assuming the AAP on the Bravo will give the same 1/2" of wire concealment that the Alpha has standard. I would love to go full alpha right now, but after pricing it all out I don't have the funds for all that at the moment.

I just finished reading through all 170 pages of this thread as I've been researching a few racks for a couple weeks. Started out looking at the Prinsu, then the Victory and Caliraised, among a few others. Hell I even thought about making my own since I work in CAD and have access to CNCs and waterjets. But after see the UpTop interaction with the community here, their customer support, small startup ambition, and vast array of modular products; I'll be outfitting my truck in UpTop gear from here on out.

Vision I had for my truck was a cab rack continuing into a bed rack at the same height atop truss with a retractable bed cover. I originally intended to do this with the KB voodoo rack and the Pace Edwards Switchblade. Was less than pleased with that cover and ended up getting rid of it. The one member on here with the army green Pro with the retrax, retrax truss, alpha, and alpha ex is EXACTLY the kind of setup I've wanted since I've gotten my truck. So I'm very happy I found this thread.

I've noticed lately in the past few months of posting a lot of people getting antsy with their orders and lead times. It'll get there when it gets there, ya'll should have been part of the morimoto xb group buy that took over a year...:bananadead:

This thread has been super informative and answered just about all the questions I have. The only thing I'm left slightly unsure of is the wiring. I'm still a novice when it comes to wiring and making harnesses. So far I've only added ditch lights to my truck wired right to my battery and heated seats with add a fuses (other than Meso stuff which is pretty self explanatory or has great dummy proof instructions or plug & play).

    1. I'm assuming that the quick wire harness is designed to plug right into the the harness that comes with the thin fin?
    2. I'm planning on the extreme LED x6s 38 slim light bar the four scene pods, is the quick wire harness setup for that right out of the box? (I know the lightbar can run the amber or white independently)
-For more context, I don't have a switch pro. I would like to run each light independently on a small toyota switch (CH4x4) on one of Meso's custom 3D printed layouts. Ideally with the scene pods, I want to install a rocker switch just like Meso's puddle pods and function the same way but seperate from the puddles.

Once I place my order, I'm actually looking forward to the longer lead time as an opportunity to educate myself better on the electrics/wiring. I would like a cleaner managed/organized setup under my hood than just having add a fuses and wires right to the battery terminal. Still have a lot of basics to learn with all this, so any insight or links would be much appreciated!

Drew, Micah, and the whole UpTop team, thank you for creating a kick ass product line and sticking behind it along with being there for your customer base! Excited to order a rack soon!

@Justin_Exploring first of all I’m envious of your Barcelona red taco (tried to get one but the dealership stayed stubborn on their price).:notsure:

I hope someone can answer the question on alpha vs “alpha-lite” bc I’m in that same boat. 6 vs 7 bars isn’t a big deal to me (I removed a few bars on my sso 4runner rack to make taking a rtt off and on and didn’t notice any difference in usage). For me if the bravo came with handle bars I prolly wouldn’t even need the aap (tho it does look cool and hiding wiring is a plus).

also for electronics, I used this thread to build a Bussman Rtmr relay/fuse box. It was very informative and I am super happy with the way it turned out, although I would do a few things differently if I had the chance/funds to started over. It has great functionality and capability.

Man I just installed my Bed Rack back in June and already thinking of selling it only because I may go the Camper Shell Route. Anyone in South Texas wanna trade a Camper Shell lol for a Bed Rack System? I love the look, but the wife wants to start taking out big dogs out more often and they won't fit inside the Tacoma.

Haha thanks! I originally wanted a Blazing Blue Pearl but they discontinued that for 2019. Wasn't feeling the voodoo at the time so Barcelona was my backup and loved the 2017 red Pro, but could only find one 8 hours away with 25k on the clock and they were asking $44k for it... :der: It was impossible finding a used blazing blue as well. So I went with a bare bones Off Road right at $35k and turned it into my own faux Pro with all OEM parts.

You can get separate handles for the bravo too or they just come with the AAp. If I get the Bravo now instead of the Alpha, I'll probably install paracord handles until I'm ready to order the AAp in barcelona red.

Thank you for that thread link, looks like exactly what I need after skimming the first page! looks like I've got some reading to do.

@Justin_Exploring if you haven't already purchased your switches, I have some extra CH4x4 switches that I had originally planned for my rack. I ended up going with a switchpros setup, so I don't need them anymore. Pm me if you're interested.

Did you ever end up installing them at least? I purchased those and for whatever reason they dont look good at all. I'm wondering if they sent me the wrong ones?
