    SERE gets berets now? They didn't wear them when I was up in Spokane in the 90s.

    The only folks wearing berets were PJ’s (they earned them). Then suddenly it exploded. It seemed anyone who wanted the got them. I know a few PJ’s who went back to fatigue hats (all OD green back then). The beret lost the sense of accomplishment it once signified.

    I thought Rangers wore maroon berets. Wait - Google tells me that’s Airborne.

    I remember seeing the Army Times story when it happened (I was in a joint assignment). They got (shudder) tan berets as a replacement...which looks seriously weak.

    Berets are for never if at all possibly avoidable. One of the best days in the Army was when we got rid of them again.
