Hey all! Brand new to the site and just bought a 2019 Tacoma and looking for some light trails in the Reno area to try it out as I am new to going off road. Any suggestions?

Oof. may not be as much help there. Don't know much of the names, as I usually just keep exploring new trails that I come upon. It's gotten me into some pretty interesting situations but come out okay most of the time. If I can remember some, I'll post em up as I usually stick to the easy to moderate since my truck is stock and also my daily. Can't risk doing anything too stupid

Your best bet is to get out and explore the BLM land (we have lots of it here) You can access it easily via Pyramid Hwy (Look for Moonrocks OHV area on google maps) or Lemmon drive (look for OHV staging area Hungry Valley on google maps).

Another nice easy drive is up to the top of Peavine. There's various ways to attack that one, but you can google Peavine road, and it'll bring you up there off N. Virginia

Dog Valley Road- you can take it north all the way to Bordertown and there are a ton of stock friendly side trails to explore.

Henness Pass Rd- Same access as DVR through Verdi but instead of dropping down into Dog Valley head west towards Stampede. Then you can take it through Sardine Valley and out to highway 89. A good little side trip is the Sardine fire lookout. Also check out the Babbitt Peak fire lookout. It is actually manned during the summer (or womaned last time I was up there). Usually they let you come up and look around if they’re not busy.

Those are a couple good ones. You can also head up to the Crystal Mine (don't get your hopes up, it's a giant pile of white rocks) via dog valley road. Nice easy drive, and you can search out some neat quartz rocks and pick up a few crystals if you dig around enough.

That's the view of Dog Valley (Peavine would be to the left) from the crystal mines about a month ago.

It had 52k miles on it. You guys keep vehicles longer than that?

I wanted a long bed, and the desert tan. Also I've been cooped up at home since March, and needed to spend some money. The 2020 being the mid cycle refresh, I finally got a power drivers seat, got rid of the damn hood scoop you can't see over, and the sport suspension sucked for off roading.

Long story short, I spent probably $15k where I could have upgraded my old truck for $5k. Smells nice though. They gave me $30k on my old truck as a trade. The new one was about $45k out the door and I got my new duratracs swapped over.

This truck is going to be a place-holder until the new Tundras come out in a couple years. Love the tacoma, but would like to get another half ton.

Edit: Also, not married, no kids. So new trucks every 4-5 years are my treat to myself. (Girlfriend gets to upgrade furniture and house stuff for us as she sees fit. We have an agreement about such things)

We took our '19 4runner OR onto this one when we first got it. We didnt go all the way to Lovelock but that would have been fun:

    Dropped pin
Deleted per request of my fellow wheelers! Let's keep the trails clean!

These are all great recommendations and thanks for giving the new guy a great first day! Are there ever any meet ups around here to check out rigs and talk about rides, etc? I checked on Overland Bound but didn’t see anything? Thanks again and will be researching all of these spots

It's not too far off from what I paid for that truck new in '16...

Negatory. Looks like I'm working on the yard work and honey-do list this weekend :(

Any chance you can delete that dropped pin and just PM it to @Dbass00? The dumping has been bad out there and it's only a matter of time before a gate goes up.

Anyone bought ammo at Cabelas or Walmart recently?

Don't need any but was wondering if they were upping prices. I heard Cabelas has been empty of even odd ball hunting loads.
