Awesome advice. Unfortunately I’m looking for a “unicorn” and can’t find it anywhere.

Everyone thinks they’re looking for a unicorn (unless you’re buying used). OP’s method works on dealer allocations as well. I had my Taco “ordered” using the same method in 2016. I did it again this year on my Ram order.

    What specs can’t you find?

I’ve been trying to order an Army Green Pro automatic. I guess with COVID the production schedules got all messed up. Even if the car shows up on cars.com etc., it has already been sold and they are “working on getting it off the site.” Once my husband saw the Lunar Rock, he got real serious about getting a green one. Contacted dozens dealers but no luck so far.

Yeah that ship is going to be sailing real soon. I'm not sure when they said the 2021s will drop but there will be an end to production orders for 2020 model year a couple of months or so prior. That sounds like an unfortunate side effect of covid inventory issues mixed with coming up on the end of that color's production run. Typically, last year's Pro special color is a next year regular color if you're willing to get a TRD Offroad or something similar; I don't know if Toyota announced keeping Army Green in the lineup.

If you're in a location with a handful of dealers, your best bet may be to walk in and see who wants to try to get it allocated for you.

Takes forever to set it up but once you get a system I can add new dealers about 1-2 a minute to my spreadsheet.

OK so I just started this process Saturday, the first few dealers are offering around the same price; by the book within about $500 of each other. Only low offer I see is from a no-haggle dealership and that's advertised on their website. I had one good offer from an on-site visit at 17.8% below MSRP, but that was a demo car with already 500 miles on it. Guess I'll find out Monday who's serious.

EDIT: 5 days later some better offers, but all within about $3k of each other. Think I’ll play the game another couple weeks before pulling the trigger.

I started this process for a new Tacoma, pretty much (only about 20 dealers to start), and also added in my Credit Union's and USAA's contract auto shopper service. Didn't use nudes though. Didn't seem necessary, but now I'll rethink. ;)

The winners all came in about the same spot. The CU shopper service got the best results even with their share factored into the price.

Great work and still feasible today. Weeds out all the BS. Had a saleswoman tell my wife "Mrs. Smith you have got to work with us", she replied "I don't HAVE to do a damn thing" and left.

I didn’t read through the entire thread but if you are selling a vehicle, not trading it in, and have a buyer you can do their deal at the dealership. I can only speak for TX but when I sold my Jeep to get my Tacoma my buyer agreed to do his paperwork at my dealership. It saved me from paying taxes on $17k. The dealer charged me around $500 to do it that way but I saved way more in taxes and sold my Jeep for a few thousand more than they would give me on trade. They do this because they still get your buyer in F&I for warranties and whatever they can sell on the backside of a deal.
