I’m being left in the dust I swear. All my buddies are building AR platforms. I have always been a bolt gun guy but swiftly changing my perspective.I can touch at 500 yards but just not quickly. 556 is next on the front. Resistance is futile. AR = about right.

I swore off deer hunting when I was stupid enough to shoot one over a mile from any logging road.
Dragged it out over terrain impassable except on foot.

I know this will be unpopular, but I was never enthusiastic about venison.
I made deerburger mostly, mixed with equal parts ground pork shoulder.
The deerburger was way too dry otherwise.
Anyway, some people shoot 'em for meat, which is fine.
    They can have at it.

Groundhogs, OTOH, I shoot for revenge. :)

yeah some people don't like it.
I find it depends on what they have been feeding on as well. the ones I shoot deep in the mountains here aren't nearly as good as the deer I take out on the plains and ranch land. The white tail I got last year is indistinguishable from beef in my
opinion. even left a bunch of the hind quarter as roasts and stew chunks and the wife eats it without complaint.

    :fistbump:

    Yeah, I finally capitulated.
Not gonna try to justify it on home defense grounds.
I can fuck up a home invader plenty good with a shotgun and birdshot...without plugging the little old lady next door.
But that shit just (almost never) happens way out here anyway.
Everybody has guns and lawbreakers know it.

    I just want one.

Though I'm gonna get serious about shooting groundhogs again.
Got a 1X4 scope on order with cal .223 ranging hash marks on the reticle in 100 yard increments.
Hey, shooting groundhogs you're out of doors in nice weather...
Plus the fun of hunting with no problem finding them.
You shoot it and done...no work afterwards.

Someone famously said that "Hunting has all the excitement of Warfare without the inconvenience". :p

I'm told that Elk (Wapiti) meat is comparable to beef.
But my chances of drawing a tag for one here are pretty small.

I've only had farmed elk and it was delicious. I have not been lucky enough to connect with an elk while hunting. They are hard to find in the dense forest up here and if I find them they always seem to stay just outa range on me. I'm waiting for the snow and cold to push them outta the deep mountains then i'll head out and chase them harder in a few weeks. has just started snowing at elevation here

I just like the lilt of your posts! Copy that. If groundhogs didn't want to be shot, they wouldn't 'present' themselves. Phkn rodents!
Soooo, as I understand, get 5.56. Then you can shoots both .223 and all that cheap military ammo? But I am a reloader. Same case except different head space??

I use YouTube to post videos here. You can’t upload them to TW directly from your phone. I tried to put up a PB video but it was quickly banned from YT

Morning all. Woke to find a text from my friend in San Diego that his brother passed away . He was just here for a few days for a wedding. Now he must come back. I must be there for my best friend of almost 40 years.
    Former firefighter.
I replied but of course he’s asleep or at least he should be at this hour .
