I would guess that was a second roof (maybe) ?!? Someone removed original roof, added that McGyvered venting, installed the 1x4 grid to create 'air flow', then re-roofed?!?
I've never seen anything like that in my 35 years of construction.

 

It was a whole house gut from 27 years ago. The outside wall at the back of the house was moved 5’ out. A two story 3,000 sq’ addition was added with a breezeway to connect the two. The craftsmanship is phenomenal throughout the house. The architect and builder didn’t seem to understand how to vent an attic. I’ve never seen anything like this either.
I really want to tear out all of the ceilings and spray foam. It’s 76,000 dollar roof, the budget is beyond maxed out.

 

if you plan on that route , would make sense to put hole in every rafter bay because there is likely zero cross ventilation

 

There are 4 in every rafter bay, they at least put mesh over the holes.

 

Word on the street is that the builder had a drug problem that started to become apparent near the end of the build. Cocaine induced problem solving at it’s finest.

Everyone in the 80's and 90's was on it. Mammoth Lakes went through a huge construction boom in the 80's to early 90's. It's experiencing another one now. About 1/4 of my work is additions/renovations. Some of the shit I've found made me want to do coke just so I could try and reason it. One of the best was a direct buried 14" flex duct. Under concrete.

The home owner said that the heat in the downstairs bedrooms and den never got as hot as the rest of the house. When doing the addition I found out why. There was a new 36" x 36' footing placed in the lower slab to carry 2 steel I-beams. I cut out and removed the concrete and started digging. About 2 feet down I found a totally collapsed 14" flex supply duct for 1st floor. lol

 

Yeah if you can post a pic of both when you’re done that’d be great. Our shower is subway tile, and I was looking for a way to add shelves. No idea why the pervious owners didn’t at least put a niche in when they tiled. The whole bathroom was remodeled two years ago by them

 

One part of the project. Still need to top it with a handrail but its one set of stairs done

 

ok, when I get the second shelf finished I'll take a pic. I set it in last night, and its curing now. When I get home from work and working out, I'll caulk it, and take a pic for you.

 

If there are reports of tornadoes/hurricanes in ME, fear not as I upgraded leaf blowers. I knew the BR600 would be more powerful, but I'm blown away. Still keeping the old one for smaller stuff.

It is indeed. Typically I blew the leaves into piles amd then rake them onto a tarp and then drag & dump in the woods behind my house. Could only blow small piles. Still need to drag from front yard, but I just blew my entire back yard into the woods. Took less than 1/2 the time. Had some strong winds the other night, so with that and the drought we're seeing leaves fall much sooner than normal.

Self-Employed now doing small/odd jobs, painting, light carpentry, general handyman type stuff. Rebuilt this wall a while back. Couldn't really do anything with that slight dip on the corner as the customer didn't want to add any additional backfill and the whole corner would have needed to be moved back up the driveway where the wall continued (didn't fix that section), so I left it as is. It's not as pronounced as it appears in the pic. Good days work.

 

Friend of a friend purchased a small ranch for her father to move into (much closer).

Original steps/stairs from garage to house/door were horrible. 5" drop from the threshold, 7" to next step and then 9" down to garage floor and very narrow. Just an accident waiting to happen. Replaced with platform type landing steps with nice 13" wide treads and each step is now 7". Original railing was a cheap aluminum POS. Replaced with something more substantial. Eventually painted the base with non-skid paint.

Also put up our black eyeball trim with some glass inserts. Looks pretty cool

 

Not really home improvement, but it is preparing for home improvement Bought all the tile for my main floor the other day because the store manager of The Tile Shop gave me a F&F discount that I couldn’t pass up. So the wife now wanted to know what the plan was for the kitchen, so I got to drawing.

 

What did you use to draw that out? I’m looking for a way to draw out our kitchen plans but don’t want to spend crazy money on a program or subscription.
