That >8,000 lb. winch is a waste of money.

hey hoarder23 , yup stuck in a pool of mud is never a good time. yup it should have said 1/4 mud on the 2nd gen. all good. We in the north call this a kerfuffle. and we're all glad your future self doesn't require an archeologist to unearth, eh! As far as "off-roading" goes I'll leave that to the professionals. This guys taco will see some backcountry forestry roads and possibly some old fire roads or a bit of sand barges whilst out hiking, backcountry camping and/or fly fishing expeditions. BUT the type of mud-bogging ya'll were up to is for guys in heavily lifted rigs or all the local JK's. Also, I'd prefer the DD stay a DD and the JK be the one with a broken axle. I'm more of a weekend warrior than a hard-core off-roader. Nonetheless I do appreciate the winching advice, as you never know what situation will arise when out in the frozen tundra!

And thanks for the Edmonton link. I'll check that out too, eh!

If OP isn’t going to make a video I’ll buy all the supplies and make us one. Do I have everything we need from HF in my cart?

I just about died looking at that cart. You know every week or so when I get a notification for this thread I'm always hoping it's a video. Oh well, maybe next year.

Some of us suckers still have hope that there might be a fun video. On second thought, at the rate he could pull himself out it'd be such a long video, chances are it's been rendering for about a month now.

I just hope I'm somewhere with WIFI when the video gets posted. And, I hope I have beer, popcorn, and a lot of free time.

You might want to upgrade the spool on that winch somehow. It probably won't hold all 7.5k+ feet of line.

We'll have to put that in the trailer we're buying to haul all the extra "stuff". You know, for the quadrupletriplequadradoubled back and forth snatch block rigging so we can winch a 6K lb. truck with a 3,500 lb winch 6" before we have to wait 15 minutes for the winch to cool down to get another 6"

With a RTT, camping gear and the lightbars/bumper, and tires I loose about 1-2MPG highway realistically..

my smitybilt 10k winch along with a snatchblock gets me roughly 19,000lbs of pulling power that does not give exactly 2x the pulling power, there are loses, not to mention the strength of the line is limited, i believe the 3/8" rope on it is the limiting factor having a break strength of somewhere between 17-20k lbs straight pull... 17-20k lbs should be enough to lift my truck clear off the ground, hell even 10k lbs should be sufficient to lift it.. you will find with smaller ATV winches those tiny ropes wont handle anything near 12k pull... their break strength is closer to 5-6k lbs.. honestly it is more about piece of mind, and having the winch attached to the truck (semi permanent) means I have less to pack for offroading trips, and typically recovery gear with as come alongs, ropes/cables, and shackles are not light at all... nor are they space saving, the winch takes up no cab/bed space other than the wireless controller in my glovebox, and the cable under my rear seats, along with spare soft shackles, and hard shackles, and a 30ft 20k lb strap. and with the advent of sythetic line, my bumper and winch combo is light enough I can easily bench press it into place (roughly 150lbs). I also like having the ability whenever to help out strangers, I keep a toolbag, straps, and my recovery gear onboard at all times...

The real question is "what is your retrieve ratio?"

I have a Penn baitcaster loaded with 80# mono. Maybe we could do a comparison?

In theory it would work. Then again I think that kind of thinking came from a fellow that said if he had a lever and a fulcrum he could move the earth.

Heck I saw the math that determined the length of the lever and the placement of the fulcrum once. Yep in theory it works. I’ll buy the guy who does it a beer.
