Mine was on there pretty damn tight from the factory..Toyota has never done an oil change on my truck after the first dealer experience but that’s another topic so whomever put it on was done at the factory I assume and I needed a breaker to get it off.

I’ve changed the oil twice since I’ve owned it and the second time, after using a torque wrench to put it back on the first change it came off easily with a 3/8 and the filter wrench. Manual says 18 ft-lb but my torque wrench only goes down to 20 so I went with that.

 

Thanks! It would be great to know how some of this stuff is installed at the factory. I always envision those six head lug nut tools. When I was working on some parts, the assembly shop had calibrated air tools for torquing nylon nuts. Of course, we somehow have some loose spark plugs from the factory? I was good to go there though.


One of my favorite tools are the digi torque adapters, like this: I have a similar one that I have been using for years. Even though they say the scale starts at 30ft-lb, I have used mine reliably down to 6N-m in aluminum threads.

 

Is that a nitro tap? Fancy. Just a bunch of normal CO2 taps here - 1 root beer, 1 seltzer water, and two empty. I should go buy a keg.

 

Yes, it is. I was running nitro mix with a standard faucet until I found a good deal on a Guinness tap. The original handle is off with @7r41lbr34k3r for prototyping. I needed a lower profile one to be able to grab a beer when the Taco is parked next to it.

A selter tap would be really cool.

After 20yrs with the reg, it is starting to get leaky. I lubed it well, but it still drains down, so I just turn on the gas when I need to.

 

I never had any issues, done 3 oil changes already. Maybe because i didnt let my dealer do my changes

I did buy a metal one just in case if this one cracks, so i can still be mobile.

I had thoughts of a just-in-case, but our other cartridge car was just fine and came off lease service, so I'm going to hedge on the bet.

 

My regulator is probably 15ish years old. It's always on since I force carbonate filtered water for the seltzer water (one on tap being pushed and one on standby carbonating). All I've ever done for maintenance is replace the fiber washer when I swap out tanks.

 

That is how I used to be. The only trouble that I had was wooden bungs in old 1/2bbl kegs drying out. Easy to keep them moist after the first time.

The reg has a square ring seal, so no fiber washer needed. The leak is either with relief valve or diaphragm. I hit everything near the diaphragm with food grade grease. There was some soap bubbles around the reg cover. With the 2x cost of beer mix these days, I didn't want to re-experience another overnight drain. $20 isn't too bad, $45 is!

 

I've never had a commercial keg in mine (it's all set up for 5 gallon ball lock Cornelius kegs), but I did get a sankey tap recently so I can hook up a 1/2 or 1/6th bbl from a local brewery if the need arises. So many good beers in cans now though.

 

My eventual goal was to get some cornies on a manifold and be able to have two or three in the fridge. I never got that far, but almost got around to brewing before the Taco took up all the space.

I did my first oil change yesterday and had no issues with the cartridge. Because of the air dam, the removal of the skid plate was the longest part of the oil change. I also replaced the oem drain plug with a fumoto valve to make the draining of the oil easier on my next oil change.

I recently installed a TRD skid that I plan to drop for the oil change. It was not fun to play with, esp with the wheels on the ground. I had a skid on our other car with a cartridge that had an oil filter opening similar to the TRD one. It was a mistake the on time that I left it one car to do the work. Oil was dripping from a few different spots.

 

I can squeeze in a 5th in the center if it's one without the rubber handles on top. The manifold is on the bottom left. I'm amazed that fridge still runs, it was free on Craigslist 15 years ago.

 

That is a lusty setup! I like it.

Mine was a $25 deal at Appliance Recycling. The funny part is that it fit in the back of the Volvo with the hatch closed. That was a good laugh.

The whole kit paid for itself by the time I bought a second keg.

 

I just changed my oil.But I have a 2.7 with a spin on filter.

 

The up top location is pretty lusty.

 

That's because quick lube places don't use the filter drain plug. Takes too long that way. They simply spin the housing off with a cap wrench and dump it, thrown in the new filter, spin the housing on then use the drain cap to tighten it by inserting a 3/8" rachet or extension in the sqaure hole. Do that a couple of times and it's on there for good. Dealerships aren't beyond this shortcut either, from time to time.

BTW, not all Toyota's have the filter drain plugs. Only the ones who's filter housings are inverted. Transverse mounted ones are drained by loosening the housing.

 

Soooo I recently did an oil change and didn't have any of my shit, like the filter wrench. Channel locks got it out and back in with no issues. Just a few scratches. She's got probably 6 changes in her at least
