The traditional HK & Sigs are also much more complicated and require more mechanical manipulation. I'd personally only be interested in the VP9 or P320 models from these companies if I were avid of not going the Glock route.

What do you mean by complicated? Do you mean internally or the operation to shoot them. I agree that a Double/Single firing action is not for everyone and you need to train with what you carry. I have both the VP9 and P320 and like them both. In fact the VP is one of my favorites. But I also have more traditional HK’s and Sigs that I enjoy shooting. But then again.... I like my 1911’s (for fun not daily carry).

Both. The internals on the traditional HK & Sigs are much more complicated than the Glock, or similar, platforms and therefore more prone for failure in addition to the operation. I agree that you must train with what you carry in order to be proficient but I'm all about catering the odds into my favor and streamlining my training. Mechanical safeties (HK USP, 1911s) require the user to be extremely proficient with their operation in both engagement/disengagement in order to proficiently do so in a stressful environment. Unfortunately, most people don't train to the level they should so there are many stories where these features have created issues during the fight.

Same can be said with the de-cockers (Sig, HK USP). Although these devices don't inhibit the functionality of the firearm, they do play a roll into safety and are typically offered on single/double action pistols. Again, train with your equipment but it takes a lot more practice to stay proficient with a dual action pistol than one that's not.

Again, this is coming from someone who really appreciates a well made 1911 (for fun) and there are few things that operate as smoothly and my first pistol was a Sig P226.

Agree with more mechanically complicated - but that doesn't lead to any more/less failures (at least in HK's and Sig's in my experience). I also own/shoot a 19. All are top tier. As far as complicated to shoot, that may be too broad a statement for all HK's and Sig's. The non-safety HK's and SA/DA Sig's with no safety & de-cocker are no more complicated to shoot.....pull the trigger and they go pew pew until the mag runs out.

Our local (throughout Maine) surplus and salvage store occasionally gets some gun related stuff in. I stop by here and there to check.

I disagree. I'm by no means saying Sig & HK are not top tier firearms and have outstanding reliability. I'm simply pointing out that using the general rule of thumb when discussing mechanics, more parts=more failure points.

I do agree with your second point. I'm being very vague as there are WAY too many models to bring into conversation. Both HK and Sig have different trigger operations that change this conversation. That's why I was trying to preface with "traditional" as the majority of these models are DA/SA w/ decocker for the Sig and DA/SA with mechanical safety and decocker for the HK. This is leaving out their newer striker fire models. Again, vague.

The HK LEM variant (without the manual safety) is no harder to learn than a striker fired trigger.

I would tend to agree that as a general rule of thumb, but I think the HK & SIG quality significantly eliminates/reduces that.

Let's agree not to add 1911 manipulation to this conversation.

To add to the actual topic, this is my most recent purchase. Been putting this off for a long time due to cost but decided it’s time to bite the bullet due to recent events.

1000 large rifle primers for $60. Didnt want to pay it, but after checking Sportsmans warehouse (they arent marking up their prices as bad) every day for a week and coming up empty handed, I had to jump on them when I saw them at a local gun shop.

Did go to the range today and tested some loads in my Enfield at 200 yards. Got a good zero and decided to try some prone off hand like I would in a CMP shoot. 10 shots, knew I pulled one left before I checked the spotting scope. Damn near had a perfect score too.
