    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
Just came through NM a week ago.

It's smoky there too. Same as Nevada, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado... we only had one (semi) clear day, the whole trip, in Colorado.

Good to know. I was just looking at the smoke forecast. It appears there’s no escaping it.

    Nice!
I’ve been there a few times. I grew up a few hours from there but haven’t been back since 1995 or so.

Civil War sites are interesting. There’s a sort of foreboding dark energy to them. They’re kind of sad places.

I visited Shiloh and Vicksburg in 2014 when I lived in Arkansas. Id recommend both.

Looks a bit like Gettysburg. I had chance to spend a day there a little over a year ago.

You’re not wrong, it’s an interesting feeling looking across these fields and knowing what happened there. I’m a little over an hour and half from Gettysburg (more if I take the back roads) and maybe, maybe 30 minutes from Antietam which I’m going to go check out real soon too.

Haven’t been to Shiloh or Vicksburg yet. Been to Yorktown though (even though not same wars) and it was pretty neat and crazy to imagine what went on over 240 years ago.

LOVE that area and the history. I lived, for a time, in Catharpin VA. Close to Manassas. We literally drove through the battlefield every day to go to town.

Gettysburg is amazing. You're definately right about it having a different feeling. It's the same at Manassas, and other battlefields I've been to. Custer's Battlefield in Montana is the same.

I think my favorite historical place in that area is Independence Hall though. It's the same building, tables, chairs, floor etc... as it was when history was made there. The same squeeks in the floor that would have been there when Washington, Madison, Jefferson, Hamilton, etc were walking across it.

That... or Shields Tavern in Colonial Williamsburg... James Shields was my 11th Great Grandfather. Sold in to slavery from Ireland to Barbados. He escaped to America and later married the daughter of the original owner of the tavern

You can still dine at Shields Tavern. It's considered one of the original buildings from the Original Williamsburg.

It wont have that for long! Its our makeup and all we were built on but it no longer matters. History is evil and offensive.
Enjoy your time brother. I love my history. Wish others did as much as I do.

    GSA I presume?

    Please don’t go there!

This is a National park. I feel and hear you but this venue is not the place.
