What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I bought a set of those new from the dealership, thet should be available still

 

It’s up on blocks for a while the cv angle isn’t great but it’s ok when it’s on the ground

 

OEM vs Autozone; OEM on the left. I had an issue with the new Autozone reverse light switch not working right, as odd as it may sound, it wasn't making contact when installed. Turns out, it didn't have enough threads to seat all the way in. The difference is minimal, but enough to keep the "cheaper" part not to work correctly. With shipping, the OEM part was only $12 more. Lesson learned.

What is that part?

 

Reverse light switch. Also the switch that tells when your lockers are engaged

When I looked up the locker indicator switch, it showed a different part number...and more expensive. Although they look the same. Can you confirm the reverse light switch will work for the locker? Just curious.

 

I've used a reverse switch for a manual 2.7 L Tacoma to replace the transfer case engage switch, locker engage switches, and add engaged switches. It's like 15 bucks from Napa versus the range of $22 through $80 you might find from Toyota and they're all basically the same part with the same connector.

 

Crack a beer and binge watch Jody on welding tips and tricks. Maybe even buy one of his pyrex cups.

Then buy several packs of filler rod and spend half a day running beads. It really isnt that hard once you do it enough.

I would purge that manifold with gas before you weld though.

 

So I ended up using the dash switch cover and made a back plate that screws into the holder that clamps to the dash.
So now it rock solid. It was moving around too much before.
And of course took a lot longer than what I thought

Made some braces to keep my bumper from working it’s way to a saggy ass. The issue being after everything is lined up and tightened over time it would work it’s way to drop like 3/8” in the rear and looked like shit.

How's it feel with the new plates?

 

I don’t know that I can feel a difference,

But I needed this to give the frame more strength for the trailer.

The back frames on the Tacoma are just so weak not being boxed
and the frame metal is not that thick.

 

Yeah. Agreed. Having dug into mine, there is surprisingly little metal back there.

 

I started to use antiseize on the ID of the wheels. I hate having to drive to get the wheel to pop free from the hub with all the nuts loose.

 

It’s no wonder why the back end bends so easily if hit in the rear

 

Now that, that’s fine.. but on the threads... ehhhhhh
