I spent over a year looking for a used manual 4x4 and could not find one. After I pulled to trigger and started getting parts, I found only two trucks with a manual. each one had 37k-38k miles and they where asking $35k- $37k. There was no way in hell I was going to pay MSRP on a 3-4 year old truck with no warranty. For the cost of my truck used plus the conversion it was about $23k. That includes having to buy a second t-case due to it being faulty.

I just hope he plans to run the wheels off it cause a 2020 with a junkyard swapped manual will be worth very little to any sane second buyer. I can only imagine the low ball offer a dealer would give......

Well, clearly you made the wrong decision. Now please go trade in your truck.

I wonder if mustang forums have to deal with V6 to V8 swap questions.

Honestly these only come up twice a month, along with 4x4 swaps. All pipe dreams from people that need to do more homework.

An older truck with donors available is different, but this is silly and should be treated as such.

absolutely true it wouldn't be worth the effort and expense to do on a 2006 truck, know we have suggestions for a perfectly fine 2020 Tacoma with 15k miles on it like it would be only a matter of picking up a junked truck/parts from somewhere in the USA and someone is supposed to slap it all together and as good as new, not happening, no mechanic in their right mind would attempt to do that work.

Could have been worse. He could ask what size tires he could fit. That question gets asked multiple times a day and has a definitive answer. At least the question of whether this is possible isn’t exactly answered.

You clearly aren't aware of the amazing capabilities of a student motorcycle mechanic who has enjoyed working on cars with his father and grandfather. He'll just need to rent a transmission extractor.

I would see if you can use OV tune to swap the ecu might work might not. Unplug all the automatic crawl control BS. Then figure out how to work the push to start. I’d also look into Hilux and fj transmission parts.

    Hi.

    I didn’t read the thread....hoping I can piggyback though.

Bought a 2020 tacoma and don’t like it. Can someone provide me the necessary steps to convert it into 4Runner?

I did it in my driveway alone and have less experience as a mechanic than he claims. I’m not sure what a transmission extractor is, but I didn’t use one.

well that's an easy one just go to Junkparts.com and get yourself a 4 runner body and transfer it to the taco frame, it can be done

If you had a regular cab, you might be able to do a body swap. Otherwise you’re gonna have some weird long wheelbase 4runner Frankenstruck. What about going for the 1st runner style? Slap a cap on the back, cut out the rear window and bolt in some seats in the bed. Could be pretty bad ass.

Right I would not do it on a brand new truck, was just giving the way I would approach it with a complete parts truck.
