Looking to see how everyone else is set up their 2x4 3rd gens. I’m not new to Toyota’s but I am fairly new to Tacoma’s. My first was a 15 TRD off-road and now I have my 2018 SR5. Im more than capable of finding parts but am interested in how everyone is using and setting up their rigs. Not sure if I’m posting this in the right area so please be patient with me if this is the incorrect place or previously discussed topic.

    Thanks,

Mod allows you to have low range in 2wd but I’m not 100% sure you can use it unless you have 4wd check the buy sell threads

You could also add a rear locker should be able to get you through most of what 4wd can do.

what obstacles are their and what tends to be their breaking points? The only thing I’ve is attached so far is the ARB carrier barring drop kit. I was planning on switching the gearing to 4:88 and looking into how else I can beef things up ?

Have you priced out this mod and what all would be needed to make this happen?

no not yet. to make it happen just need to change the diff guts. not sure if the ECU will have a fit. don't know if anyone here has done this.
last time i did it was 50 years ago i put a posi traction 4:56 in my 59 Chevey.

The most beneficial(dollar for dollar) mod you can do is trade it in for a 4x4. You can lift, regear, and lock a 4x2 and a stock 4x4 will still be more capable.

With that said, it's your truck. Just have fun with it.

I guess it’s all subjective but when you already have other toys that are capable 4x4 players I only needed 2WD.0C57D145-E25A-47C6-9D38-02422B75D845.jpg

If you already have an offroad toy I'd just leave it stock, possibly with the exception of re-gearing to 4.88s.
