NASCAR is fucking broken. Give the trophy to the guy that passed below the yellow and black flag the guy trying to keep the lead. What a bunch of bullshit.

So I just watched the DVR of the race. Red flag to set up overtime finish, and NBC stops showing the race.

Makes it hard to keep following NASCAR or caring at all. Network doesn't even care enough to show the finish.

I wouldn't be surprised if they quit televising this stuff within a few years. NBC doesn't seem to care if anyone watches it.

I wonder if they ever finished the race?

I guess I don't really care any more.

The 21 car. They put him and Chase Elliott to the tail end of the lead lap for “pushing” people below the yellow line.

As much as I agree with Jr about the yellow line rule, it was put in place for a valid reason - a certain accident that occurred on February 18, 2001. Is it needed with all of the safety systems that have also been put into place? I don’t think it is.

The original rule effected those who crossed the yellow line and advanced position... kinda like the 11 did.

But because some claimed "well I was forced below... it ain't my fault" they started punishing those who "push" them down.

They say if the culprit would have wrecked someone by not going below the line..... it is the one they would have wrecked that gets blamed.

But I have a sneaking suspicion had it been reversed... 21 still would have gotten nailed. Not because of anything other than 11 is in the playoffs... 21 isn't.

Earnhardt's death had nothing to do with going below the yellow line though. The car that ultimately caused him to turn never went below the line either. The double yellow rule has also arguably caused as many crashes as it was aimed to prevent.

The rule doesn't allow you to advance your position below the double yellow, but, as I recall, if you do, you have roughly half a lap to give it back or you are penalized. The 11 did not maintain 1st all the way from turn 4 to the start finish. The 24 definitely passed him and the 21 may have (it was hard to tell with the camera angles), thus making it null. Not to mention the 11 went down to avoid a wreck, which was about to be caused by the 21 blocking the 24. I would have loved to see the 21 win it, but he did force the 24 down below the line after making contact with him.

The pass below the yellow line advanced Hamlin from 6th to 3rd. His momentum after coming back onto the racing surface put him in the lead. Not that he really could have given 4th or 5th back since they were wadded up behind.

Earnhardt dropped to the apron to block Sterling Marlin.

Since they were in the process of crashing, Hamlin would have arguably made the pass anyway. Again, Hamlin went down, avoiding a wreck. His momentum put him in the lead, which he then lost to the 24 and possibly to the 21 before retaking it. His going off track at that point gave him no advantage since he lost said positions after coming back on track and legally making the passes after.

Yes, he did. Marlin never crossed the line to try and pass. Marlin, instead, held his position just as if the double yellow line rule was in play.

He didn’t lose any positions after coming back onto the track. He only gained.
