I read an article posted in another thread but now I can't find it. The pulsing TC lock is basically an emissions reduction function that comes with driveability and durability issues.

So part of the solution is not to flash the Mangnuson SC tune and the other half is to use Vf tuner to make your own. Presume you can not peek into a locked tune so you can not modify Magnuson's tune - thus you don't flash it. Square one = need to identify the parameters to modify and which existing ones (shifting logic in stock vft tunes) to leave as is.

Just updated my tune with these valves and will be testing shifts and TC lock/unlock. I'm 04B31 with 5.29. Will update later.

So pretty much it’s all around more beneficial to completely tune to where the TC doesn’t lock in early gears 1-4?

If anyone wants to try out my 04b31 premium 5.29 tune let me know. Anyone have any idea how to get rid of the 5th and 6th gear governor yet?

Personally I'd just run the Magnuson tune and deal with it or pay someone who tunes these things for a living. I'd never want the responsibility of tuning a FI motor and trans with a program that doesn't even have a "how to" manual yet. With all the adjustments to fueling and spark I could foresee catastrophic results that someone will need $$$$ to cover. It won't be Toyota or Magnuson at that point.

I'm enjoying you guys have at it with all the edits and applaud your commitment. I feel like I'd get annoyed having to smash in a few numbers, flash, drive, test, log, and smash different numbers. Also I see everyone talking about tables and air load and torque converters and I don't even really know how an AT works. Feels like that should be requisite material. The YouTube videos I've seen are helpful but not very good.

So how's that tuning 101 coming? :anonymous:

When I go Full Throttle (Accelerator Pedal) I don't get Full Throttle (Throttle Blade Angle) in 1st Gear.
After 1st Gear it is good to go. So I would like to ask again...

@OVTune or anyone else, how do those of us with AT's get Full Throttle in 1st Gear?
Is there some information that I am missing out on?
3rd Gens have been out for about 5-Years.:frusty:

Below is a log of a Full Throttle test run.

    If I logged properly;
    Line 1 = Accelerator Pedal
Line 2 = Throttle Blade Angle
    Line 3 = Engine RPM
    Line 4 = Vehicle Speed

Look at Line 1 you can see I have the pedal to the metal the whole run.
Look at Line 2 and watch how the throttle blade opens full for a split second and then drops to about 1/2 and slowly ramps up to about 3/4 before shifting to 2nd Gear. No Traction Control and No Tire Spin.

I think there is benefit to TC lock in 4th gear. I am not sold on there being enough benefit to half lock for me to worry about trying to tune it at this point. I am planning to tune out the half lock ability and see how it goes.

Throttle limit first gear, and throttle limit 4 high. Set all values to 100. I believe techstream only shows 80 something as that's the amount of degrees it opens. 90 being maximum...

Thank you for your reply. I made those changes. Saved the changes, reopened the tune and verified the changes before flashing. I have tried this with a couple of different tunes. Nothing changes, all of my logs show the same results (before and after).

Have you made throttle limit changes to each of the gears below these maps? If you put the pedal to the floor, it should open 100%

My truck feels the same and logs the same before and after. These map changes don't seem to do anything.

I think it depends on the driving experience you want. I like having lockup in 4th, but my truck is very light compared to many others. I do think it is beneficial to have no lockup, either full or partial, in gears 1-3. I don't think these trucks with stock gears put enough power down for that.

Lockup does a couple things-it saves fuel and lowers trans temps but you need to be making the torque or carrying the momentum to drive it through that mechanical coupling. Manual trucks (which only have a mechanical coupling) do this by using a lower diff gear set which provides more torque multiplication.

Pulsing lockup seems like it only has drawbacks to me. I will eventually totally eliminate it.

Yes, they make the Accelerator Pedal more responsive at part throttle, but do nothing at WOT,
