sway bar, quick disconnects

    Who has them?
    Seen them on Jeeps.

    One time on a street car I disconnected the front sway bar temporarily and it soaked up bumps way better due to the suspension being able to operate independently.
    On a truck that's probably even more important off road to articulate over bumps.

    Given that people wheel in Tacoma's, I'm assuming everybody has them.
    To disable sway bars at the trailhead.
    New Bronco has it electronically with a button.

    Where do you get yours?

    Not possible on a Taco. The end of the sway bar will dig into the CV joint boot.

    You have to remove the entire bar, or divorce the bar with a pin.

    There's no easy solution sadly.

    removing it entirely will probably make it very unsafe in the street
    ex: having to do an emergency swerve to avoid a driver ahead doing something wild

    My sway bar was quickly disconnected by impact and socket then staged in the recycling bin.

    With stiffer lift springs I really haven't noticed it's missing, if anything I like the way it rides better and offroad it's way better.

    how stiff?
    I think OME for example is only 590lb or 620lb, in various height sizes
    with 620lb springrate being for an ARB front bumper basically
    and 590lb ib without

    after switching from OEM TRD sport (linear) to OME 883X (590lb) paired with Bilstein 5100 set to 0, it honestly feels a bit softer
    never drove an OR package though (progressive springrate)

    I have 5100's with 887 springs (lighter rate but longest length) on the 2nd notch so they got a fair amount of pre-load on them, I moved them to the 2nd notch when I put my ARB bumper and steel skids on, they IIRC are also progressive.

    If only Currie Enterprises would make an Antirock sway bar for Tacomas I'd be all over it. Doesn't look like it would be very difficult to design. @mstudt sells a swaybar disconnect link. Other than that a swaybar delete is the only other option.

    Is your plan to make it so that it’s not a complete disconnect, but a telescoping link on both sides that will allow free articulation up to the point where 1 link bottoms out and the other reaches the end of extension travel?

    OME coils are 590 lbs and 660 lbs for 886 coils. Stock is 550 lbs.

    I already offer sway bar links like that. They work, but not the most ideal.

    I plan on building a sway bar disconnect that'll allow you to remove part of the sway bar itself, and that would give you a true disconnect.

    Very interested to see what you come up with, since welding on the sway bar is not an option.

    Idk how people drive on the road without the swaybar. Supposedly it feels better with stiff springs...

    And here I am running 725lb springs with the swaybar without a complaint.

    I do however feel it would help to remove off-road, which I have not yet done, would be interested to see how that would fare.

    No. You can’t swing the sway bar out of the way like on a Jeep. The free floating end of the sway bar will destroy the CV joint boot.

    You should be able to take it off in a few minutes to check for yourself on/off-road. I've read plenty on here and I'd say it's a split decision -- probably depending on your setup and your like/dislike/comfort with the difference. I use mine if I'm towing my trailer and it comes off when on the trails. Outside of towing I prefer it off. It's actually fine off towing as well, but my guess it's a bit safer if I get into a dicey situation. I'm also one of the slower drivers around ... all said, if disconnects were available I'd put my name on the list.

    I went without it for ~2 or 3 years with 5100's and stock TRD OR coils at the 1.75in setting. Body roll was quite a bit more but road compliance was much better as things could work truly independently. BUT then I started doing more long distance highway driving loaded up with dirtbikes/camp gear etc etc and having a sway bar was much more safe at highway speeds. So it went back on with some new energy suspension greaseable swaybar bushings.
