I had a 2010 Prius built in Japan that had the same issue with white paint.

Can anyone confirm if this paint issue has been corrected? We have a white Tacoma on order and wondering if we should change it to our second choice, Cement.

I have a 17 white tacoma as well, but haven’t seen any flaking, but if I can get a new paint job, that would be nice lol
Just curious, Do you guys having issues take Care of the paint? I wax my truck often and wash it 2-3x a month by hand. I also live in cali. the one thing I have noticed is the clear coat stripping from my headlights though.

Toyota’s track record isn’t really to fix, so much as it is to extend coverage.

So it finally happened to me too! I went to the car wash yesterday at Toyota. They always wash my truck after a service but they keep their car wash open to the general public. I took it through and then upon drying it I noticed the paint peeled. I can’t tell if it was from that wash or had been happening prior and I didn’t notice it. The service department was already closed so I wasn’t able to take it right in. Going to go today and see what they say. My truck is also a 2017 and it’s right at the end of the lease this month and I was going to buy but I guess now I might look into getting a new one. Anyone have a suggestion on what they would do at end of lease if this happens?

Mexico is often the scapegoat, but quite honestly I've heard more issues with the American factories. It's just a Toyota issue from my understanding and definitely not unique to the Tacoma (or Corolla).

I don’t think its Mexico either. Their white paint just sucks thats all. Dries up and peels off.

It’s weird that it seems to be hit or miss. Knock on wood but I haven’t seen anything like this yet on my truck.

I’ve got the bubbly-rusty driver side rocker panel but that’s it

no, there has not been any indication that toyota has fixed this issue. i wouldnt take the chance. no matter how well you take care of your car if the paint starts peeling off it is going to look like shit and it is going to bother you.

Well too late, we picked up our truck last weekend. My husband went over it with a fine tooth comb and was very impressed, he said the paint is “flawless.” It’s the first new car we have had that looks so perfect, and our others have been so called high end cars.

Hoping for the best with super white!

Don’t worry it will look great until 36,100 miles.

I dont get it, I have an 18 tundra [110k) and a 20 taco [5k], both 040 paint, no issues with either. No garage, high desert sw, and no issues. Cant wash at home due to hard water, only use high pressure diy car wash.
