Why do you think it would change? These are not new, I’ve had them on vehicles that I owned 20 yeas ago so very long tried and tested history.
In fact I’ve never head as many complaints about them on any vehicle until I joined this forum, but you also have to look / think about the main demographic here.

Oh yeah. It has not been as bad as I thought it would be, but still in a strange spot.

Just did the first oil change after ToyotaCare expired (25K)...cartridge was on so tight that it took the filter tool, a 1/2 drive ratchet, and a 3' breaker bar to get it loose. Of course, the cap cracked in the process.

Replaced it with an aluminum housing...not because it's necessarily "better", per se, but because I had it available.

I think it's more a problem of the dealer monkeys using 18-2 second ugga duggas (versus the proper 18 ft-lbs) than it is the plastic housing...no doubt it would've been just fine had they done the job correctly.

    Thanks!

It certainly seems to be a situation with shop techs versus the home gamers. Now, I am wondering how many caps get swapped without the owners knowing?

    Definitely not cool.

Probably more than we think...but I would hope that a tech that repeatedly gets housings from the parts department would catch someone's attention :fingerscrossed:

I like using the cannister drain. U just gotta be quick to install it. Then when u remove it, remove it in shear not in tension.

Unfortunately, it wouldn't be the tech that breaks them, but the tech that installed it before them. Or like @Bishop84 noted, the person the verifies the work?

Great tip. I struggled a bit with the drain insertion when I did the first oil change. Although, I have half a thought of not even bothering with the drain and just remove the canister?

I found that this little gem works wonders with the door in my skid plate (RCI)...

I really really dislike oil. So anything I can do to prevent unnecessary spills, I do. I even brake clean out my oil drain pan at the end haha.

I don't mind motor oil or even gear lube. Brake fluid and coolant are my nemesis.

I don't mind coolant at all. Quick wash of the hose and Bam! You're done. Oil soaks into concrete and shit. I hate it! I always wanted to try that oil eating bacteria or whatever it is.

Yeah, but coolant still takes a decent scrub and is slippery as fuck if I have to keep on wrenching.

For the most part, any small amounts absorb into the garage floor pretty quickly. I don't have anything there after 12hrs or so unless it is a continuous leak. Even the one that our old car had eventually went away.

I use this stuff diluted 1:1 in a spray bottle to clean up oil drips/spills on the garage floor. It works really well.

I also just got a nice jug for used oil. It's 5 gallons and translucent. I can see the level so it's easier to avoid overfilling it and making a mess.
