When you do it, there is a bolt/brace on the top-middle section of the engine that braces the cross over pipe from the pump to the driver side bank. It isn't super obvious until you try to pull that pipe out.

Getting down to the driver side exhaust flange would be much easier to do with the SC off. I didn't have any real problems doing it with it on, just scrapped the hell out of my arm on random sharp pokie crap like hose clamps while reaching in there.

Lol. Easy there hard charger. Just because he is going to service the blower and change the spark plugs doesn't mean the cam gears are like RIGHT THERE.

Not true. Half the work is removing the valve covers. Removing the blower is 1/3 of the work if you are looking at it like that. :p

That last statement especially applies if you have a 2012+.

haha sure. once I got the hang of the SAI did not seem too hard to remove the valve covers but time wise I will give you that. I had to pull the covers a couple times so felt quicker.

The extra steps for 2012+ trucks makes the whole thing take longer than it needs to and that's what makes it suck. I would had probably been done with 3-4 hours if I didn't have to deal with that extra garbage from SAI, but here I was. I think total I took 5 to 5.5 hours by the time it was all said and done.

You don't count Robert. You had everything totally destroyed when you did yours so of course yours was going to be quicker.

I agree, he has been super helpful in my experience. Really an awesome person to have around for everyone, he along with HP tuners have changed the tuning game for these trucks for sure. I am kinda in the same boat. i have another ECU that i want him to tune, but im having a hard time coughing up the 400 bucks for credits since ive already done that once.. one of these days though, itll make it to the top of the list

Thanks for the offer(s) of the snout cutter. I'm up here in NorCal so I might take Robert up on the offer... thanks guys!

I'm trying to convince myself to not go down the 2.7" rabbit hole. Main reasons being I have other mods still waiting to be installed (eg. Cam gears, NST blower pulley, etc) I'm waiting on the tacoma-spec RIPP coils to go with Ruthenium plugs before tearing apart the top end for install.

Im also trying to avoid the rabbit hole because of the work involved with snout cutting, belt wrap, and trans upgrades....

....but this rabbit hole has a tractor-beam pull on me and it's whispering "resistance is futile".

Question: who's running the 2.7" or smaller with no transmission/VB upgrades?

That’s the beauty of the quick change. Toss on another 2.8 for the meantime. That the main reason I got a 2.8 was waiting for valve body work to be done.

Im really temped To toss a 2.7 on as well

So when you have the SC off, just remove the bolt that holds the cross tube for the SAI to the back of the engine. That way, later down the road when you pull it, you dont have to struggle and find it with the SC on blocking everything.
