What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Shhhh, don’t look too closely under there. That's just the excess of the strap. I didn't want to cut it too short in case I ever take the skid off and need to put it back on.

 

Fab’d up a mount for hilift to mount to tire carrier and welded it on. Bought my long lost snorkel back and installed it.

 

How do you like those KM3s? I think that’s what I’m gonna go with for my next set? I have KO2s now.

How difficult is doing the swap from ECGS?

 

The rear is a piece of cake. I've removed the rear 3rd member a few times now and it's about 75 min for me to get it out and 75 to put it back in. If someone has an e-locker, add another 20 min or so.

Since the axles have to be pulled out in order to remove the 3rd member, some people unbolt the hard brake line from the hub. What I do is unbolt all the brackets from the axle and the lines will flex enough so I don't have to bleed the brakes. I explain it at 6:40 in this vid.

Very nice. What's the story on swapping to an air locker? Not trying to stir up the debate of eLocker vs Air but give us the quick and dirty.

The way that works is under throttle it's locked and off throttle, it unlocks. It's cheap and effective but it's clunky, especially in a manual truck. After a couple years I finally had enough of that so I swapped it for the air locker. My firstborn is coming in a few weeks and the truck will be a street queen for a bit, so I wanted it to be a little more comfortable to drive around. That's why I've been making the interior nicer (sound deadening, carpet, replacing old shitty trim pieces) and I'm tweaking the rear suspension so it rides nicer.

Thanks, he's almost here, due date of Halloween! We're excited, my wife is ready for him to show up already since she's just perpetually uncomfortable right now. I'm still out in VA, I'll be here for another couple of years before we move.

That's crazy! We do not have as much salt here, but we still have it. I greased and anti seized the crap out of mine when I did my pads & rotors.

just washed two weeks of ash accumulation off my Tacoma yesterday. it was amazingly filthy. i actually paused halfway thru and changed out my soapy bucket water. it got BLACK.

 

Am in the middle of doing a DIY big brake kit using 4runner components.
