    @suaveflooder

The last week I’ve started to notice a little bit of a twinge in my knee. I’m being hyper sensitive about how that knee feels (obviously). So any pain or issues freak me out.

@weldertaco s comment about sore quads made me realize that on my long runs I get a lot of posterior chain fatigue, stiffness, and soreness.

I’m thinking its the Altras :/

I’m gonna switch back to my other pairs. See if that helps.
Have you noticed more knee pain with yours?

Oh I don’t  I had to order these online while having a sale and I didn’t know what size would be perfect. So I ordered 2 pairs(11 &12)

Surprised you don’t have more shoes. Weren’t you saying it takes the soles like 48 hours to get back to normal after runs?

probably the distance you are running ;). Mine does it here and there when I have worked it hard. I’m probably going a little harder Han I should but I need it good to go for the academy on the 12th. The knee is good, but I agree, that feeling freaks me out every time

24-48 hours. I have 5 pairs I’m currently alternating. Not including these.
I’m doing so many miles I want to have pairs ready to go to replace what I have. For me shoes go bad abruptly. Like one day they are great, the next they are retired to daily wear or work shoes.

These were $50/pop so I had to grab em.

I never want to go through knee surgery again. Not that any surgery is an enjoyable experience but this surgery was the worst one for me, and I’m sure the feeling is ten fold for you.

I feel anything wrong with this knee and I start having nightmares.

My 30 miles last weekend was in the Altras and that probably was too much mileage with that shoe. I normally have no issues with the knee, calves, hams etc so it took me a minute to add it up.

I got the Saucony Mad River Trails. Saucony is my go to brand, and when I saw they had a trail shoe with a wide toe box, I was sold.

Here they are next to the Kinvaras for toe size comparison

Atlas stones look way easier on tv than they actually are.

Today’s the last day for pioneers 20% off sale FYI. Picked up new leather straps and phantom wrist wraps to replace my old mark bell gangsta wraps.

Saucony gang. My freedom ISOs are my favorite pair I've ever owned. A bit long in the tooth now, though. Wish they still made wild colors.

Might buy another new pair if I can find them

    Absolutely wonderful run today.

I wore my Asics Nimbus (10mm drop)on my 20 miler this morning.

It was a really nice crisp drizzly fall morning until about mile 8 when it really started to pour down. Trail got muddy and I was soaked by mile 10. Luckily by mile 16 most of everything dried out. I did see two sasquaches.

My legs did great. Mile 14+ I was fighting fatigue but nothing bad. Hubs ran the last 8 miles with me and kept me on pace (he is training to be my pacer at the 50M).

Was really a great run with no issues.

    @weldertaco
I really appreciate you saying something about sore quads. It made me realize trail running normally makes my quads sore but lately my trail runs have lit up my calves and hamstrings. To the point where it bothers me the rest of the week. Not usual at all for me.
It made me realize the zero drop shoes were the culprit and that likely saved my 50 mile race.
I owe you a few beers

Saucony no longer uses their ISO technology but now has ISOfit technology in their shoes.
From what I understand the foam insole technology is the same. It still forms to your foot after X miles.

The big change is the upper. They have gone to a “gussetted” tongue. Not sure if the Freedoms have it but many of their other shoes do and I love it.

Have you tried their current Freedoms?
It doesn’t seem like the design of the shoe has changed. Just the name.

I am not sure. I ran xc and track in college. Got new shoes constantly. I can't remember what I had back then.

I see new old stock freedom ISOs online. Might grab a pair before they're gone. I also use insoles because I have high arches. They fit that shoe very well.

Never hurts to try. Especially since you use your own insoles. You may be able to get tge Freedom 2s on sale. Looks like they are on the 3s now.

I’ve been wearing the Guides since 2012. They’ve been through many transformations and they have always been my favorite shoe.

Saucony makes the best shoes in my opinion.

I hope my first pair of trail shoes from them are just as awesome.

Some people just genuinely dislike running, and hey I'm cool with that, less competition for me.
But most people hate running because they do it wrong.

    Easy 8 this AM.

I've decided to add in some extra strength work since my 50M is on a pretty hilly course. Tuesdays will be run AM and leg day in the PM. Going to focus on a lot of single leg work and eccentrics to help with the hills I'll be faced with.

I hate running because running is stupid. What other apex predator runs for fun? None. Because they’re not stupid!
