Not unless URD makes a lighter flywheel kit. I’ll just go back with OEM.

Yes, it’s subtle below 2000rpm but I don’t have to downshift as often. After 2000rpm you have a good amount more power.

Yes this truck just doesn’t make much power that low. I rarely ever lug the engine that low so I can’t really comment on the performance there and dynos don’t really read at that rpm most times.

@Bascoma could you post your dyno run by chance? We could compare it to a stock run.

OP awesome video! I am very interested in the supercharger kit, but I am concerned about adding forced induction to a NA engine without modifying the internal bits. With the added strain, so you think that original reliability of the engine would be retained?

Absolutely I bet this engine can handle a good bit more power no problem.
The magnuson kit has about the same power increase as the TRD supercharger on the 2nd gens (which magnuson made). The tune is conservative because the kit is designed to last as long as an OEM system would.

i wouldn't say the power improvement under 2k is subtle over here. the low end driveability, which is partly the bump in power, was the biggest mission to get the thing responsive. the reason i say this is because the lion share of complaints in power delivery, at least with the MTs, is power & response under ~3k or so. i haven't seen much complaining about power above the timing advance surge at 3500, even on untuned stock trucks. do you have that surge still show after Mag's tune is installed?

Just a comment on "lugging" the engine below 2000 rpm... are you always winding it out on the highway? 70mph in my 3rd gen V6 4x4 is still under 2k rpm.

The lack of power below 2K could be attributed to the throttle limiter in gears 1-3. You can floor it all you want but the PCM will not open the throttle all the way. That can now be changed in VFTuner

that's a part but it's more than the throttle limits.

The MT is above 2500rpm at 70 in 6th gear. The automatics are a lot more efficient in that regard.

I’m not sure. I liked the “surge” so I haven’t paid attention. It’s just the intake runners “changing length” due to the acoustic valve. If was a bit rough but I enjoyed it. Since the stock intake is gone I’m pretty sure it’s not there now.

heres a dyno chart someone with the magnuson SC posted on FB.

    C56B14F7-95DB-4C1E-A9A7-9B9893B7EE89.jpg

green is stock red is maggy. This is a custom tune though. The magnuson curve feels different to me. Like it kicks in a bit earlier than this custom tune.
The magnuson tune is closer to 308HP up top.

here is the dyno chart magnuson posted. I don’t trust it because it shows the revved to 6200 and my tune only goes to 6000.

now i am totally perplexed. you are not sure if it surges at 3500 like the stock tune?

I just told you I never noticed a surge issue like everyone complains about. I just felt a slight change due to the acoustic valve changing the intake pulses.

I tend to ignore most of the issues people bring up on TW. Most of them only become problems when they start bouncing around in this echo chamber lol.

    another few questions.

How bad was the crank pulley to get off? I only have a 1/2" electric Ryobi and I don't think it's strong enough for the crank pulley bolt. I don't have air tools. And could prefer not to use the starter to zip it off.

I'm also considering getting quotes from maggy shops so I get the supplemental warranty. But then again.... uninstalling it to factory stock is possible too ;)

Second question. Is 91 octane required? I ask because I live in the middle of nowhere. depending on where I'm going, it's possible I end up at a station having only 87.

your 1/2 electric will probably be too big. My 3/8 Milwaukee fit but didn’t have the might to take it off. I used a breaker bar and the starter it was quick and doesn’t hurt anything I’ve been doing that method to remove pulleys for a long time for any car that has the frame close enough to wedge. I use a rope in the combustion chamber at TDC compression stroke on unibody cars;)

I got an air impact to put it back on.

you have to use at least 91 octane

I got super sceptical snake eyes with this whole thing. The negatives are so minimal in his review, but basically everyone else is disappointed. Fuckery is afoot!
