I think @GHOST SHIP is probably your best bet on who to ask about this.

FYIW: when I decide to go stage 1, i will likely get the V&H tuner. I don’t think they can void your warranty using aftermarket parts unless they can truly prove your aftermarket part was the reason for a failure.

Yup. The only “positive” to going with the SE and having it done by them is that if anything goes wrong you can blame it on them and they’ll have to fix it. But I wouldn’t even buy their shit. Way too overpriced

Only thing I bought for my build is the SE HD Clutch Spring which was a good deal. Like you mentioned, if I was extremely rich and bought a bike new is the only way I would buy SE - have them do it then roll it into my final cost for a discount. The stuff is way crappier than aftermarket anyways. The exhaust looks worse, sounds worse, performs worse, and is twice as expensive. WTF?!

If you are having the work done by the dealer you got the bike from have a talk with the service department people. Some times off the record they will allow a power vision tune and honor your warranty but other dealers may not, so on the road it may cause problems. The factory tunes and one SE tuner are locked to EPA regs. I went with power vision on one of my bikes with a 110cu high compression kit. My wrench got 116Hp and 126 ftq out of it. That’s not possible with the factory tuner.

I have the V&H fuel pack and pretty much the whole stage 1- short shots and air cleaner. One thing I like about the fuel pack is that it saves your stock map as a protected file which can’t be overwritten and you can switch back to if you go back to stock or need to take it in for “warranty” repair.

I’ll agree that HD stuff is always overpriced and there are usually options that are just as good if not better. I’m not the type of dude that’ll pay $100 for a bag of bolts labeled“official HD hardware dress up kit”.

One thing to keep in mind is that the fuel pack marries to the first VIN it’s attached to. Meaning once you hook it up to a bike, it can’t be transferred to another one. So don’t buy a used one even if it’s a good deal. You can still use it to read engine codes on other bikes though but that’s an expensive code reader IMO

So from my understanding, I can use multiple aftermarket parts and still use the V&H tuner....correct? I don’t necessarily just want V&H parts.

Yes, the V&H fuel pack has a huge catalog of multiple aftermarket parts and specific maps for all those combinations. They also constantly adding maps via app updates for newer parts that come to market. You control the whole thing with an app on your phone. There are seriously so many features with the fuel pack besides tuning and maintenance that I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface of them.

Lastly for now....all these things can be installed by me at home right? I mean, I ain’t no mechanic but do work on my vehicles. Just making sure I don’t need any specialized tools or gadgets.

They’re all hand tool install. At most you’ll need swivel sockets for some of the harder to reach nuts/bolts. The Fuel Pack just plugs into the OBD port behind your side cover. Look up Blockhead’s videos on YouTube. He did everything you want to do to 2 sportsters. Really well made and goes through everything in detail. He’s a member here but isn’t really active anymore.

Edit: removed member tag. Looks like blockhead the YouTube guy nuked his account and there’s a different user with that name now.

Here’s his playlist for an iron 883 stage 1 build and other stuff:

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
Yes. I have a '17 manual AT and it is my X-Wing fighter. Love it. So well balanced for bike of its size and weight. Can go as slow as you want and as fast. Off road or on a 4 lane interstate. Not much it can't do.

2-1 Thunderheader. Can’t beat the classic sound and performance.

    Their cerakote sucks shit tho.

If you’re REALLY trying to ball, go Fab28 or Royal T designs.
