That is definitely easier for the parts store folks to pour out than my 5gal pail. I never minded doing it myself, but they insist on doing it themselves for that past bunch of years.

Yeah, the 5 gallon buckets can make a mess but you can't beat the price. I just brought 23 gallons to the wastemobile, mostly in original 5 quart containers. They keep the containers there, so this is my replacement.

It wasn't too bad when I was doing it, but certainly, folks before me got more outside than in.

I swapped it with the metal one from my Camry. Camry doesn't need a metal one.

    A few minor things...
Where did you get that jug?

Looks like something from ULine or united plastics?

I usually have to break one every 2 years, it's really not that common.

I have an aluminum housing on hold for a fuck up with any of my personal cars, but my wifes rav4 plastic is still fine.

Also we never touch the 3/8 drain. Maybe 5-10% of toyota techs actually use the cap drain. It's far too slow and adds a chance for error.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
And no matter what else you're working on at the same time as doing a coolant drain, it'll drop and end up in that bucket without fail. It can be across the room and it'll somehow make it into the drain pan.

Pretty much covered by most of the folks here. Do it yourself and use a known good torque wrench. I too swapped to the aluminum housing (during the second oil change) and also noticed that the aluminum drain cap sticks on the aluminum housing (turning it with the 3/8” extension caused the entire housing to turn during the third oil change). I am guessing that this may be caused by an aluminum on aluminum vs an aluminum on brass contact? I don’t remember if the aluminum housing also has a brass fitting or if it’s aluminum threads. I will check during the next oil change. I also keep the old plastic housing as a back up.

Very first oil change I performed on our 2017 Highlander I was shocked by how tight it was. I ended up using a breaker bar on it and eventually snapped one of the "fins" off, which left a big hole in it. I had to replace it with metal. Never had any issues since, but I dont hulk it every time. My Taco has been fine since I got it.

I keep a jug of this stuff around, its great for cleaning up the underside of a car too as you are waiting on the oil to finish draining. Never had it hurt concrete or anything.

    Thanks!

    Looking good.

Considering the oil on your towels, I have been impressed that the oil does not turn as dark as I have seen in the past on our other cars. Either filtration or engine seals / piston rings are going great work.

    Thanks!

Was that first change that you did the first for the Highlander or the first after dealer services?

First I ever did on the highlander, always assumed the dealership touched it last. We bought it with 20k miles. (from a chevy dealership)

tonered, I change the oil every ~5000 miles using the factory oil. Would also like to mention that the oil comes in quarts and in liters.
