You can do anything you put your mind to.

I've always been cautious about sticking my head close to sharp things, though.

They are the mounting feet that came with the install kit from UpTop. In that first picture the rack is upside down to get the feet put on. The kit was well labeled (as far as which bag goes to what) but some of the parts inside each bag didn't quite match the instructions. Maybe this is a new revision of the mounts? We have rear rack lights... grab handles go on tomorrow to finish it off.

EDIT: Grab handles added - all done!

Oh snap! I didn’t even realize those were the “feet” of the rack. Maaan I’m an idiot some days. I see it now you had it flipped before putting it on the cap. Interesting though! Thanks man!

I’ll try this again since I used the wrong name last time and this sub moves fast!

@upTOPoverland could you provide any info on the differences between the alpha rack and pairing the bravo rack with the AAP?

I don't have pics of fresh air vs non fresh air. all fresh air is two smaller bars that go around sunroof to effectively 'box' it. Fresh air replaces one load bar.

That doesn't really explain it though. I'm considering the Bravo now and then adding the AAP later down the road. Will that give me the 1/2" wire channel that the alpha has? Other than that is the only difference between the Alpha and Bravo the 7th load bar and stainless hardware vs black oxide?

@upTOPoverland thanks for posting the video to show the differences between the alpha and bravo. My question goes just one step further in trying to understand the difference between the alpha versus getting a bravo rack and adding the aap. Seems like about a $100 difference and I was curious if it may be worth it to upgrade to an alpha vs saving money and going with the combination.

thanks again for taking the time to answer these questions

The main difference as you noted is the initial cost. The Bravo series is priced much lower than the Alpha. Allowing you to get a roof rack, mount your gear, and modify the rack to your liking.

Bravo without AAp has integrated armorTEK and gooveTEK. This is all a single rail system, does not come with grab handles.

Alpha has a dual rail system with armorTEK and gooveTEK. Comes with grab handles, and can be color matched.

$100 price difference is based on the material used. The Bravo AAp and Bravo are made only of 3/16" aluminum compared to the Alpha with an inner grooveTEK rail that is 1/4" aluminum with a 3/16" armorTEK rail.

This will make the Alpha stronger with the thicker material. It's also the full complete package at once.

Hope this helps with your decision, either way you can't go wrong with an upTOP overland rack.

We only provide and sell stainless steel hardware due to the durability and rust resistance.

    Well....

Part 2 of my little experiment to create something I want/need that I can not find off the shelf.

RGBW lights for the roof rack.

I of course love the look of scenePODS @MESO designed, but since they take the Baja Design Rock lights, and they come in single colors only. it simply does not meet all of my needs. :annoyed:

So, not being one to give up to easy, I went and did some looking around for some RGB rock lights. I found a cheap Set with decent reviews on Amazon and decided to take a chance. I picked up the new mictuning C2 RGBW set from amazon

Once they arrived, I confirmed they DO NOT fit the scenePODS (like there was any doubt). I set out to design a mount inspired by the original scenePOD.

housing front.jpg sceanepod RGBW pod- flat top 2.jpg sceanepod RGBW pod- flat top.jpg

Running a test part now so I can do a fit test and see how it actually looks. may all be a waste of time who knows... but I am having fun designing this little part

Here is my "Fresh Air" option on my DCLB w/ sunroof. Just remove the load bar that would otherwise go across the top of the sunroof and add some orthogonal bars/brackets around the sunroof instead. Hope this helps.

Nice! The goal of the ScenePod design was to protrude out a little as possible. That's why the bottom half is "inside" while the top half is poking out. This gives you the maximum amount of angled light with least amount of poke.

As I start to mount more items to my Racks my only gripe with the UpTop system is why couldn't they be like everyone else and provide an entry point for mounting bolts like below. NOT MY PIC:

    Screen Shot 2020-10-08 at 9.07.04 AM.jpg

You limit buyers to having to purchase those little half moon nuts which sucks IMO.
