Mine got welded a little too close to the pinch weld and have contacted it a bit, so yeah I third that advice...make sure there's enough space. Doesn't have to be a ton but you have to account for a little flex

Mine are about a half inch away from the pinch weld but when you use the hi-lift on them, one side flexes up just enough that it rubs it a little bit. Not enough to be all that concerning but if it were any closer it would be.

Welding doesnt require help from someone else for very long. When I taught some classmates back in high school, they were doing their own thing by the second time we met.

Form a puddle and move the puddle. Thats all it is. Most peoples issues are solved by speeding up or slowing down.

Looks like I'm gonna cut up those old AP Expo leaf springs in my backyard and start practicing some welding lol. Still got some reading up to do on what to get. I know they say stick is good for learning technique and more budget friendly to get started with.

Spring steel doesnt weld very good at all just fyi.

I wouldnt be scared of learning Mig first. Chances are it'll be all you ever need to use. I actually learned Mig, then Tig, then stick. I rarely if ever need to break out the stick welder at work.

Gotcha. They definitely will flex enough to rub the pinch weld. Mine did too. After a couple hard trails they self clearanced though

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
Gx all fixed up. New calipers (abused the warranty on the 4runner), fresh brakes all the way around, t-belt and water pump plus the new master and some other things like fluids. Easy 5000 profit... because it sold... in 5 minutes i shit you not.

MIG was what I was looking at doing based on the course and opportunity descriptions on the cert school's website.

I do have a couple old 3/16" skid plates I could practice on, lucky for @Kwikvette though he's got dibs on one lol.

I guess I would save quite a bit of money just going the ol' University of Youtube route and using that $ saved on getting my own gear.

And then just hope that our landlord doesn't freak over the sudden energy bill rise.

Do you have fun? All that matters

I like wheeling hard shit and rock crawling. Other people ride along and hate it. No shame in enjoying what you enjoy and skipping what you don't

I did enjoy it the one time I took my truck on a legit 4 wheel trail. But I dont enjoy tearing stuff up on what is otherwise a very clean Taco. Maybe once I get my own place I'll build something I can tear up without concern.

But for now, I enjoy my other hobbies while not having to dump money into my truck. Its lifted, on bigger tires and the interior is where I want it finally.

There is a part of me that wishes I had that same sentiment back when I started lol. I've gone too far to turn back now but I have made a lot of great memories and seen some really amazing places in my truck. It does require you to pay to play though

They didn't change a thing, just got the numbers and called me in. This is after ditching the collapsed XREAS when I got it, installing the Tacoma suspension stuff and new 2007 FJ rear coils, installing the Metal Tech rear links and the new 285/70 tires mounted on the Sequoia wheels.

You can see one side has made more contact than the other.

They don't touch while driving around but if I come down hard enough on an obstacle or use a hi lift on the sliders they flex upward a bit
