Settled with insurance today! Got $10,400 and get to keep my pickup. Had to haggle a little bit, but the adjuster I had was good to work with and is a Toyota guy. My original hope was $11,000 so I feel like $10,400 is a good compromise from the original offer of $8,900. I also got a temporary door to keep the weather out until I figure out what to do.

 

My second gen had to pick up the slack from all of this, this past weekend. I kind of forgot for a second that I was in a stock tacoma trying to climb a sand hill with a trailer with no winch and no traction boards until it lost traction and started to sink. Locker and atrac did me no good. Took the tires down to 10 psi and it climbed right out. All in all turned into a pretty decent weekend and I’m now committed to getting the pupper a life jacket since she proved she could handle the raft.

finally got around to painting and putting on the trim-piece that the deer took off. looks good, but a bit too clean i think. I had some issues with clearing the fender but was able to flex it out of the way enough to get the piece on. the panel gap is off but honesty I don't really care as long as there is no-longer an empty space there. If i wanted to fix the panel gap I would need to replace the fender cause it got dented, i'm assuming by the deer's antlers.

 

Got it put together a bit more. It moves now

Moog lbj are better in my case than OEM. Installed an OEM that has maybe 1000 highway miles more than the Moog I installed. Both had zero play in them before August and now the OEM has a slight amount while the Moog remains tight. Essentially, I kill an OEM bj every trip. Gonna stick with the cheaper option. Hope someone else does a side by side comparison sometime.

 

Installed a 27F if anyone was curious to how it may fit. Positive leads are a little tight but they still work.

 

It did total it. They ended up valuing it at $11,000ish not quite what I’d value it at, but better than I thought that they’d give me.

 

I assume that there is no branding of the title, since it isn't changing hands??

I’m not sure how that all works. My understanding is that my title will be processed as a salvaged title.

Flatbed is still happening. The box is temporary to make it street legal and functional until I can get a flatbed built.

 

Should show as salvage until you go for state inspection to put it back on the road. Then it will be rebuilt assuming you pass.

 

Did a long overdue diff and transmission oil change. What is the consensus on The time/mileage between diff and transmission oil changes? I just want to be on top it it from now on since I almost certainly went longer than I should have on that old oil.

edit: Use the proper 24 mm 6point socket. Not those BS 12Points and don’t over torque your fill and drain plugs!!!! This is the first time I’ve done these oil changes and on two of the bolts involved, It took the Might of Thor to bust both of the fill plugs. And on the diff, PO had badly slipped, probably while over torquing it. I had to file down the bolt to even get the 24 mm socket onto the bolt

 

Ah, even so, it isn't the end of the world. Especially if you intend to keep the vehicle for a long time to come. Really only hurts resale value. I have had three over the last 25 years.
