31 BFG M/T vs 33 BFG A/T’s ?

I currently have 31 mt and was womdering if I get 33 at in the future will i regret it? Offroad capability wise, atm the mt are great off road, my fear is going to a/t will not get good traction and itll feel like a highway tire lol, thx for the inputs

I run AT off road, they work great. MT is not always needed.

 

I forgot to mention both these tires weigh the same, but in essence I believe ill get better mpg on the a/t’s cus of the tread pattern

 

Well, the size difference alone is a worthwhile upgrade.

You don't come to a forum to ask whether or not you need AT or MT or vice versa; you ask yourself what type of driving you do to determine what type of tire you'll need.

Me, I hate mud.

I like going on long drives to hit trails I intend to drive on, and so I chose an AT tire.

To get the most out of said tire, I went with 10 ply so I can air down as much as I'd need to as well.

For 33's though you'll need to hammer back that pinch weld so you don't go rubbing your tire to shreds.

Also, the few MTs I've driven on have been loud as fuck. Thank the thread pattern.

No one can say for sure as everyone's vehicle is different, but the majority (100% of members threads/posts that I've read so far) have had to hammer the pinch weld due to rubbing.

It's not a big deal.

 

Quick question, why are you only considering BFG's?

33s are fantastic, I ran em on my 94 toyo pickup and they were ATs


But it made so much more things a pain .... for instance, on my current tacoma I run 31s and it makes trails more difficult, but I have a much bigger thrill factor. The adrenaline pumps harder and I feel so much more satisfied when I come out the other side. When I hit the same route in a buddies truck on taller tires, I get through it easier but am bummed it wasn't as thrilling.



Sure I could take harder trails but harder trails lead to more dangers and I personally don't wheel with friends any more so solo rides need more caution and 31s are that limiting factor minus all the broken things i drive around on


Same reason I won't get a motorcycle larger than 650cc. That's enough I feel exhilaration but not enough I get myself into trouble

Honestly I would go for the 33 if you want it badly, but expect to hammer cut and repeat until rubbing is no more. Or get a good alignment and call it a day. I just put 285s on my taco and it’s a night n day difference in height and ride. Only problem is that most 285s come e rated so it can be a little more bumpy or “rough”. Most people run the e rated cause there isn’t any other 285s that aren’t e rated.

 

Because they are awesome tires, and anyone running any other brand is a looser.

If you go with a pizza cutter 33, like the 255/85r16, and a 2.5" lift, you MAY not need to hammer the pinch weld.

Read up on the advantages of a pizza cutter vs. the fatty 285's. They Ctually perform better in a lot of situations, and are the size I'm going for when my 32s wear down some more.
