TPMS how they work by air preasure or tire revolution

    Can someone tell me how the TPMS works. Does the sensor simply read preasure in the tire or is it through the abs system where it measures tire revolution.

    They read the pressure in the tire.

    That's not really helpful. Toyota has TPMS systems (like in the 1st Gen Highlanders) that use passive TPMS rather than active TPMS. The Tacoma has active TPMS.

    The passive TPMS does not measure air pressure. It measures tire rotation to determine whether a tire is underinflated.

    The TPMS will go off if that tire is low.

    On a passive system the spare is not measured. He is correct. Unless your joking and I just dont pick up on that.... :cool:
