Ok, I’ll apologize in advance for adding another camera post but after going thru several of them I’m not sure how this is done. If there is a post with this info summarized, pleas link me to it?

I have a 2007 Tacoma TRD and have replaced the head unit with an OEM touch screen non JBL radio (best mod I have done BTW, 100% plug and play!) Recently I picked up nice late model tailgate with OEM camera integrated into the handle and would like to connect it up.

Is my HU compatible? I doubt my truck is pre-wired and I’ve looked under the bumper and see no vacant plugs available. I prefer a clean install and would prefer a factory harness that would run from the tailgate to the dash. Appreciate your help!

Did you have to make any changes to your dash for that radio to fit? I have a 2010 non JBL currently and want an in dash screen so i can see my camera vs using the rear view mirror without hacking up my dash. I havent decided on an after market radio but if you got an OEM to work with no cutting, im good with that for starters. what year is that radio out of?

I have read several threads were they have moved the display device from the mirror to the OEM head unit screen. I think there are soem eBay conversion cables that will do that if I recall. I only had very minor fitment modifications. What made it so great was in one modification added touchscreen, bluetooth, hands free phone, and noticeably better audo quality in one step. All the plugs form the old radio plugged right in. I did have to buy the HD antenna and the blue tooth microphone. Pretty stoked about the factory look and hope I can add the camera functions now.

Yeah. I agree with the one look. What year radio is that from and does it have an input for the camera in the back?
Also do you have the part numbers for adaptors you had to get?
How much modification did you have to do to make it fit? Was it much cutting or did you replace the whole trim piece?

I'm not sure though I may have some pics with the data tags somewhere. I don't think it has a dedicated camera input and expect if it supports camera video it will be integrated into one of the various multi-pinned plugs on the back. I didn't have to buy any adapters - it was all plug and play as I recall. The late model fascia fit perfect but I do remember doing some filing on the sides? Let me see if I can find my post on the radio install. I think I covered all the details there.

I may look for one of those radios. How does the hands free work with your phone, does it do pretty good?

Oh yeah, in Bluetooth mode a call will interrupt your music. Touch the screen to answer the phone and start talking with both hands on the wheel. Those radios can be found cheap and you will appreciate the audio quality over those old silver faced radios

I did this exact same mod to an 07 Tacoma I had and I got my stuff from camera source.com Just look for 2014-18 Tacoma camera since your radio is a 14 up. There you will find a kit that has the full wire kit. BTW they also sell the kit to relocate your camera from mirror to radio also. I believe that kit is $69.00

Just look for this under camera source.com under Toyota cams D4D58231-3F81-4956-A432-EA94851C5E59.jpgit will come with another camera. They have another kit that is just a full wiring harness but can’t remember if it will plug into your factory cam. The only hard part of install is finding your reverse trigger wire and tapping into it. Rest is pretty much plug n play

Thanks guys. I’ll start looking more for one of the cameras. So far I’m see 350 and up but I’m sure some will pop up for less. Great thread and info

I saw 3rd party replacements for the OEM cameras for around $35 online. If youre looking for a radio check this forum, your local Craigslist or offerup.com. They are pretty common and relatively cheap as well

Yes, I think that's it. Was hoping I could find a cheaper solution but may just pull the trigger on that one

I said camera but meant to type radio. I have the OEM camera already in the handle.
I’m seeing the radios for around 350$

I'd expect those might be the units with NAV? There are several models so be sure you are comparing apples and apples. One like mine I posted with no NAV are available for well under that. I'll link you to a few. Most of these these will be pre-owned from owners that have upgraded to after market units

Awesome. Thanks. Nav would be nice but hands free and camera image is more important as I know the Nav doesn’t get updated on most older OEM units.

Here's a NAV unit that went for $150 in the classifieds forum on this website:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/sold-2015-factory-radio.682548/

Looks closely at the face and make note of the SD card port in the lower RH corner. Pretty sure this is a NAV unit. You wont see that on radios like mine. I'd bet someone has a post that explains the models, features and how to distinguish them
