Make sure the battery terminals are clean and the leads tight.

Alternator is charging so it could be the starter. However, it is also colder out, so if the truck warms up and mid day still has the same difficulty then that would lead to the starter.

Still, where you dipped it (driver side) I believe the starter and alternator are both on the passenger side....Check your electrical system to make sure its all peachy.....Electrical is the worst.

When I sunk mine(on the same side) I unplugged all the connections on the harness and blew them out and sprayed Krown in the connections to force the water out. Also took me 4 days to dry everything out.
I had no starting issues, I couldn't lock my doors. Like my truck thought the keys were always in it.
    I guess I got lucky.

3" lift. $10K in TRD options. Richie's semi-hidden bumper, and soon his Elka suspension
One thing I can tell you from experience is that dropping the tailgate (on a Tundra) will gain you a half a second on the quarter mile.
Maybe I'll take my 3rd gen to the track next year with the tonneau cover on to see if it performs better...

Let someone else with a tacoma start your truck and take their opinion. Sometimes we need another ear and God only gave us two. A 3 ear can be a confirm or deny.....

Oh I Forgot to say go old school on that starter and tap it with a hammer of something steel that can reach it. If it "starts better" replace the starter.
"starts better" is in quotations because its all subjective.

    It’s your battery most likely.
Everything else is bulletproof, remember when I used only my starter to climb hill with both e-brakes on at the end of the trail? Been doing it very often and in 3 years it never failed. Battery on the other side fucked off in 9 months and went to scrap.

Please everyone, refrain from doing what the Russian says. There is NO reason to do this to your rig.

Try not stalling your uber manual? o_O I can only guess this is why you did this. There is NO reason to abuse your poor truck like this...

You can keep your opinion on how to drive manual trucks to yourself. There is no reason to tell me how to drive my truck or how to abuse it. o_O

You should see it crawling rocks with only a starter at greens, it’s fun! :burnrubber:

    Double checked them. guten tight.

Still stutters even if it's warm (drove highway for half hour before). Happened earlier yesterday when i stopped, parked the truck and shut her off, got out for 5 minutes and back, started with a stutter.
Alt is driver side, not sure about starter.

I've not unplugged anything, not sure what or where other than battery terminals

Good call on basically using another truck to boost mine off of directly.

it'll confirm or deny the battery is going out

I'm not convinced you installed a tundra starter without telling anyone. but you do have a point.
It might be battery and that's the next thing on the list to swap out, especially since i have the lightbars and accessories bolted to it

Those batteries fail on tiny matrix, and with all vibration and extra lights on your truck I can see it going away.

Toyota has bad supplier of batteries, just another thing “they don’t make them like they used to”

that and shaking around, i fear that the battery being shook like a child and thrown at a wall is going. I spoke with @tgelata and i'll bring it to a shop real quick on my lunch to test my battery for CCA.

battery recommendations? I might as well get something that helps with the dual battery set up i was thinking.

Costco AGM, that’s what I have for 2 years now and blast my music all evenings and winch in the daytime. Never disappoints for the price, plus if it fails Costco will refund at pro-rated price (it’s got 84 months) and you can pickup another one.

Check the water level in your battery.... put a battery charger on it for a couple hours if you can...

When lead acid batteries get run down they will build up sulfides on the lead plates that really affects their capacity do dump large amps that are required on startup.
Also Johnson Controls supplied the batteries to Toyota if memory serves me correctly. The lead used will be all recycled from old batteries so will not be very pure... The OEM's pay a real reduced price for batteries so every corner is cut on OEM batteries.

Maybe take it to Parts Source or one of the other places and they will do a free battery load test.

Or have someone keep the voltmeter on your battery when you crank the engine.

Not sure what you mean by "stuttering" though....

Generally the first thing to go on a starter, is the solenoid that pushes the gear onto the flywheel(hence the smack it with a hammer to un-stick it), even if mud and water gets into the starter it won't affect the main motor as it's extra low voltage and the brushes and stator are self cleaning once the starter turns over once. When the main motor fails it won't even turn the engine over, you'll just hear the click of the solenoid.

Also check out Acme Battery @ 475 Parkdale in Hamilton.

Optimas are good but people are claiming that they are not as good as they once were since they moved to Mexico.

The concensous seems to be that Northstar batties are the "top shelf" for AGM's BUT they are expensive.

Look at upgrading to a type 27 or a type 31, you may not NEED 2 batteries with one of those unless you are running a fridge for a couple days.

Have a spare battery laying around if you want to test.....

I recomend crappy tire. If the battery takes a shit you are able to replace it under warranty for up to 5 years anywhere. I have replaced 5-6 while trying to find a short :anonymous:

Completely unrelated to Shveet sinking his truck.
Anyone know what the extended and collapsed shock length I need for a 2" rear block lift?
