The Drifter - Specs and FAQ

Yeah i have a current build and i used a couple different subject titles to catch attention but still nothing

 

Not to belabor the point, but by "current builds" I mean builds that are currently in production. For example, my build #157 is not yet in production, so it is not what I'm calling a "current build." Production begins about 6 weeks before completion, so I expect my build to begin sometime in late November to early December. (This is just a guess, I could be way off.) At that time, Phil will start answering my emails and calls more regularly because we have to settle on the final details of the production, maybe add additional products like awnings and such, schedule installation, etc.

Before that time, my guess is that they don't see any incentive or need to answer a bunch of calls and emails. I'm not saying this is a good policy. In fact, it kinda bugs me. At this price, and with all the delays and rumors, I'd like a little more hand holding. But this is the train I climbed on so I'm going to ride it to the station.

So, as I said before, I don't think they're going to answer any emails about future activities such as next summer's builds. I think if the email had a subject line that was more current or urgent, such as "selling my spot asap" or "calling my attorney now" (lol) they might be more inclined to respond.

 

100% this, this is a great thought process. remember the more time they spend replying to emails the less time they are working on drifters. Hopefully communication improves once the stress of delays gets behind them but for the time being he is likely busting ass in the shop rather than on the computer.

 

Given my circumstances being all the way up in Alaska I just needed clarification on timelines... that being said I just got off the phone with Phil, super cool dude as everyone else has said, he explained the reason why guys were getting up to 17 month waits and how the current lead time is 12 months. I was on the fence with Refunding or selling my slot because I cant drive down in dead winter here due to safety concerns, but after talking with him I decided to stay with vagabond and hopefully ill have it by this coming summer!

 

Can't wait to not be the only Drifter here anymore !! Now we can do a Canadian drifter meet up ! With all 4 of us

Once you Yanks are allowed back up and the weather gets nice let me know and we will drive to the wet coast for a inaugural Drifter Canada trip !!

You guys will have to tell me when it's good on the coast because we are in for a LONG cold shitty Prairie winter this year last year was carp but this year everyone is preparing for it to be just brutal and if the current trend keeps going they won't be wrong .....

 

I’m up for this. I’m planning a long wandering drive to Alaska next year that includes the Canadian Rockies, inland passage, etc. Would love to meet up.

 

Does anyone know where I can order one of the single-point L-track anchors that VO uses for the awning tie-down straps? I want the anodized aluminum (silver color) to match the one they installed. I can only find the black anodized ones online. I need the anchor, backing plate, and mounting screws. Thanks

Thank you. I did see those, but they are shaped differently and don't match the VO version. It will be mounted alongside the original, so I want it to match. If it comes to it, I'll replace the original with black, or just use a piece of L-track.

 

The cover of our Maxxfan has developed some cracks and is leaking water. Looking online I think this is the correct replacement

I installed the MaxxAir fan last month. The model number on the box that Phil gave me was MaxxAir 4401M. The one you linked electric motor looks not as flush and as mine.

Hmmm... Mine started out black but now is a bronze/copper color. Seems the black paint wore off? It was installed by V.O. Not that I mind it but it does draw the eye. Even my wife noticed who usually won’t see that kind of thing.

 

Side note; I may be trying to make this to Gucci but heated floors in Alaska are a godsend. that being said has anyone adapted something like this to their truck bed floor? its waterproof as well.

once I get mine and move to Vancouver Jan 1 I’ll be trying to plan a drive to tuk on the new all weather road, if anyone is down to caravan. Also any of you happen to be bow hunters? Looking to infiltrate the local hunting/backpacking community. I’m also a photographer and filmmaker just looking for friends once I land!

I'm also planning this with 2 other Rigs sometime next year.

 

Was anyone that has a recent build given any time frame or heard from them recently?

I hope they're all personally doing ok, I know Covid has affected a lot of people in many ways.

 

I did this drive in our GMC Safari a few years ago. We hit a lot of Alaska from Haines to Seward to Deadhorse to Chicke. We then drove south on the Cassiar and across to Jasper and Banff before coming back to Utah through Glacier and Bozeman.

Not yet. Been a dream for a while. Open to any and all suggestions and would love to meet up, share routes, etc. Basically heard about the Alcan Highway as a kid and always wanted to drive the famed highway. I understand now that this isn’t the best route, so I’m researching, exploring different options.
