How about let’s not turn this thread into a typical TW argument.
Let’s just agree to disagree right here and keep the turbo discussions elsewhere. Nobody is going to change each other’s minds.

Here’s a great thread from the 2nd gen superchargers
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/trd-magnuson-4-0-supercharger-tips-tricks-and-mods.518932/

a lot of this stuff still applies. I removed my secondary charcoal filter, put a clamp on the vacuum bypass hose ends and removed the brass restrictor on the bypass. I’ll see if I can tell any difference (probably not) but I like tuning things:)

I can see right away the vacuum bypass valve opens instantly now with the metered orifice removed

I think I might give those mods a try too!
Hoping to get my boost gauge hooked up tonight too finally. I think I had a kink in the hose before that was giving me artificially low readings.

I live at about 4500ft so according to Magnuson i'm losing 2psi purely due to altitude so once I get a wideband i'll start looking at smaller pulleys to recover that boost.

Please go read our thread and keep this about magnuson.
Any form of tuning or calibration needed is no issue. If there is a table or code required to do something, we create the table/code/control. This isn't like relying on what Cobb gives you, we are the "Cobb."
Will our kit have the fit and finish of this SC kit? no.
will be as easy to install? probably not.

Everything you are talking about sounds like it comes from some experience with inferior parts. It may not mean much but I'm proud to say that every single critical component of our turbo kit is proudly made in the USA, even the little AN fittings, manifolds, etc. Designed, sourced, casted, CNC'd and created here in America. So quality of components is not a problem.

Now please lets keep this about magnuson.. I really don't enjoy making any posts in any magnuson threads.

Another bit of info. If you are an idiot and didn’t install a boost fitting prior to putting on the supercharger you can barely access it by unbolting the main wiring harness bracket and fitting a low profile 3/16” Allen key in there. I’ll post photos when I order a boost gauge and 90° fitting.

Are you calling me an idiot??? Cuz that's exactly what I did!! I removed the bolt on the passenger size of the wiring harness and then the stud on the drivers side so I could push it out of the way.

I had a 3/16" allen already cut down from some other stuff so was able to get that in there. My wife did ask what I was doing laying across the top of the engine when she walked out to the garage the other day...

Then I used these fittings since they are easier to turn than a fitting with a barbed elbow that sticks out further.
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074DTL1N4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Then threaded a straight connector in to this elbow.

Also, I used pipe dope on the fittings just to make sure they didn't leak cuz I couldn't get the 90* fully tight while keeping it aimed up.

I’m not laughing at you. I’m laughing with you. Sweet I just put those fittings in my cart. Did you use a strait connector with a barb or did you use a compression strait fitting?

Haha I was hating my life working on that boost port..

I used a compression fitting with that tiny nylon tubing

Verdict is out on the vacuum bypass restrictor removal.
Holy crap. I have immediate boost as soon as I put the pedal down. I can feel the power even at like 1500rpms in first now. @Bascoma you we’re complaining about response. Remove the brass metered orifice in your vacuum bypass valve and you’ll have it.
Reference the 2nd gen Tacoma SC mods link I posted a couple posts up for what it looks like and how to remove.

the truck feel like what people have been asking for now. Instant power even down low. Best part is if you don’t like it you can put the restrictor jet back in quickly.

Nice! Are you monitoring AFR/boost levels after this mod? (Just to be on the safe side)

I checked AFRs. The only place it could make an issue is the instant the bypass closes since it’s much quicker. It still went to 11.9AFR pretty quickly. This mod has zero effect on boost psi or AFR after initial opening. It literally just activates the bypass about .1seconds more quickly is all.

zero change in power or torque, but quicker response to throttle input as the bypass moves instantly when the throttle body opens to WOT

I do think I will put my bypass back in but I’m going to drill it out to a larger size with my carburetor jet drill bits. I think a little slower on the bypass actuation would do good for the diaphragm longevity and my clutch.

I thought I might have caught a hint of slip today doing some quick shifts, but I haven’t been able to replicate it so it’s possible (likely) it was human error. I will keep everyone informed. I have 40K on this clutch already and lots of daily 6200rpm shifts.
I just need it to not slip until URD gets clutches back in stock lol.

i started noticing a little slip with the stock one at around 40k actually. that's when i bought the URD just planning ahead.. glad i did. the FI rush cleared their shelves. stage 2 is great btw although there's been a couple install or hardware issues. i had to redo my installation, it's been great since. super solid.

Looks like Magnuson is up to their usual crap even in 2020. Glad to see you guys are learning some things from our side of the fence!

Can you estimate at what RPM you pull full boost with and without the restrictor?

Idk probably around 3k for both. This restrictor won’t change the rpm just how quickly it reacts to your foot.

Magnuson sent me a different tune yesterday (I had V5 and now V7) and I’ve been playing with it. I am getting much better throttle response and it is driving much more like 2.0 now.

Their customer service has impressed me. From the ordering process, to getting me my first tune fast and on a Sunday night, to now addressing my feedback and concerns over the phone and sending me an updated tune.

Looks like I have V7 already - for the 04B04 ECU with auto trans. I was hoping for a second there was already an improvement out!

@OpelGT was the restrictor fitting at the bypass end of the hose or the end where it connects to the SC?
