Hasn't stopped my yet. Lol. And I've certainly made it through areas a lot quicker than some guys in 285s.

The line for me is 34s or bust.

I prefer AT as well. I spend far more time on wet rock than I do mud, and would rather have surface area over lug clearing tread.

    Happy thirsty Thursday er'body

I was obsessed with the BRAT as a kid...Neighbors had one and it seemed like the coolest thing ever to have belted seats in the bed

Wife went form a 2010 Forrester to a 2018 Crosstrek...
The crosstrek is LOADED every feature...the Eyesight technology for the smart cruise and breaking is awesome for long rides. Used it on a trip to Niagara falls where you're on I90 for 4+ hours...It has the lane departure warning, heated everythings..and no more oil issue.
We love manual transmission but it wasn't available in the high level trim models because you can't use the Eyesight with a manual!
Now she's spoiled by the automatic...
When I drive I use the paddle shifters especially for engine braking and she looks at me like "What are you doing????" and I'm like "That's what it's for!" she always turns off the A/C when she's entering the Highway because it does struggle sometimes....

Anyone have experience with an Automotive locksmith? I friend of mine broke her only key for her CRV. It's the key and FOB as one unit. The dealer might be pricey, and I don't know anyone who's used a locksmith before. The FOB itself can be programmed without any special tools, but need someone with Honda's HDS to program the immobilizer.

Don't know if @Boston10Taco knows any, but more than likely you'll have to look around since the equipment is pricey to get into doing those kinds of keys

In my GM days, I've used garages that had a Tech2 programmer for some ECU related things. They usually charge a flat rate that was much cheaper than a dealer's labor rates. I haven't done it for keys though.

I already managed to lose the valet key on my 4Runner, and to replace that, which doesn't include the FOB part, isn't cheap.

Great deal Jeff!!!! I guarantee you are going to love them. I did tons of research on them and was going to buy them, but like I said before, the were out of stock nation wide when I was looking in May. I am pretty jealous right now.
I did have the at2's at one point and I do agree with you that the rain and wet was their downfall, but the new AT3 is specifically made for wet/snow/and off-road traction.

    Hi New Englanders,

Not sure if this is the best thread to post a question, but I'm moving to New Hampshire before the end of the year (Londonderry) and I'm thinking of getting a new truck that will handle the winters better. I currently own a 2003 Tacoma PreRunner SR5 standard cab (RWD) with about 200k miles on it. Any recommendations? Is my current truck doable at all for New England or should I get something new ASAP?

Tires would be my first concern, then rear wheel drive brings its own challenges, but weight can help that. Would you be out in big snow storms?
And welcome to New England, if you plan to keep your truck consider rust proof like a fluid film or wool wax or something similar.

I assume the 03 has an open differential instead of some sort of limited slip? If so, you're basically a 1 wheel drive vehicle when it gets slick.

but-as already mentioned, it kind of depends on whether or not you need to get out in a storm. I grew up in Mass and my first truck was 2WD. Some weight in the back and a set of recapped snow tires on the rear axle tended to get me back and forth to school.

Yeah I figured some tires and a bunch of sandbags or something in the back would help. I'll be commuting between Londonderry and Boston for work, so whatever conditions are normal for winters for that commute I guess haha. The moving situation came up quickly and it's an opportunity I had to jump on but I'm sort of playing catch up on everything. Can't wait to get there but the wife is paranoid about a 2WD truck (she's from Boston originally) and wants me to get something else. I'd love to get something like a TRD 4X4 if we can find something affordable but honestly I've heard mixed reviews. I've been driving my current truck for 15 years with few issues (I live in California though).

Anyway, thanks for the reply and the tips!

You could buy or lease some AWD commuter car for that trip and save the truck for dump trips.

2nd gen but I have owned a 2wd Tacoma here for 8 years now, about 40 minutes south of Boston. Never even had to put weight in it.

    Welcome!!

Yeah we thought about that too. She has an AWD car and currently she works from home a lot so I may use that as a commuter much of the time, however we'd both like to have a truck that can handle driving in snowy/icy conditions if need be regardless. Also, I just prefer to drive a truck if I can haha!

If you haven't handled a truck on snow, the rear end is very light. Without weight they are more prone to spinning out on snow or black ice than an suv or awd vehicle.

With that being said you could add some weight to the back and be golden. Sand or kitty litter works great. And if you keep it dry you can use it to spread on the ground if you get stuck somewhere slick.

Welcome to NH. If you're a fan of beer they have one of the best Bars / Breweries in the area

Get some better tires and some weight in the bed. Pickups are not great winter vehicles but they do well.

awd is not all wheel stop.
